Editorial Reviews

Review

"As someone who has taught, written, and seen firsthand the incredible benefits of blessing children, I love Brian Molitor's book. Step by step, he'll show you how to put together a rite of passage ceremony that can be a life-changing event for you and your son. In years to come, you and your children will look back and thank the Lord for having carved out such a special memory-making time." --John Trent, Ph.D., President of Encouraging Words and author of "The Gift of the Blessing" and "Be There!"

"With deep compassion, Brian Molitor shares exciting concepts and meaningful examples for an often overlooked segment of our society-our boys." --Bishop Phil Porter, Chairman Emeritus of Promise Keepers Board of Directors

"A wonderful, motivational book to help a dad understand his God-given role in shaping his son, this book is far more than simply an excellent read. What you have in your hand is a complete Strategic Business Plan. The goal is to help you understand the mission, the objectives, and the step-by-step tactics to insure successful fatherhood. The dividend is a happy, fulfilled, and godly son. What could possibly be more valuable?" --Robert Wolgemuth, author of the notes in the best-selling "Devotional Bible for Dads"

From the Inside Flap

On his oldest son's thirteenth birthday, Brian Molitor created a celebration designed to mark the beginning of Christopher's transition from boyhood into manhood: a rite of passage with a spiritual and moral emphasis desperately needed by young people today. This book calls adults to take on the role of mentor in the lives of young men and teaches them how to create similar rites of passage. Poignant and practical, this book offers sound teaching on the needs of young men today, clearly shows how the author became more deeply involved in his son's journey, and provides helpful tips to parents who want to plan their own sons' meaningful rites of passage. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our sons can achieve manhood by design, not by default!, June 28, 2001
This book shows you how to create powerful rites of passage for your sons. So what? In our society, young men struggle with the crucial issue of manhood. They are never sure if they have "arrived" and therefore pursue manhood through individual acts such as sexual conquests, substance abuse, gang violence and other destructive actions. Even those that escape these obviously negative activities often pursue their identities as men through workaholism and excessive materialism. This lack of clear identity harms family relationships and can lead to emotional distress later in life. The creation of a rite of passage for the young man in your life can not only spare him from countless troubles, but also will launch him into a much more certain future. His increased self esteem and peace of mind will lead him to fulfill his destiny rather than fall short of all that life has for him.

Included in the book are chapters on how single mothers and grandparents can host celebrations for their sons. Also, how to host a rite of passage for sons that have already made some bad choices in their lives. In addition, the book explores how churches, community groups, and men's ministries can get involved in turning our nation's youth problems around.

The response to the book throughout the world has been incredible. Parents have caught the vision and are using the book as a model to send their sons into manhood by design, rather than leaving them to stumble toward it by default. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Biblical wisdom coupled with practical advice -- valuable resource for fathers, June 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boy's Passage, Man's Journey (Paperback)
Similar to the classic Raising a Modern-Day Knight, Molitor explores the importance of the rite of passage for boys to be transformed into men. Molitor begins the book with an historical and cross-cultural examination of how other times and places move boys into manhood which is in stark contrast to the lack of ceremony present today. The best part of the book is Molitor's recollection of his own son's celebration - great ideas, wonderful letters, everything you need to carry on this tradition in your own home. That was the area really lacking in Raising a Modern-Day Knight - the practical know-how, the nitty-gritty of what to do...the why is easy, the what is much more difficult - Molitor fills in that missing information with this book.

Molitor also addresses some of the more difficult situations - what about the prodigal son, how can single moms do this for their boys, can grandparents do this if their own children are unwilling, etc. The book is filled with valuable examples, biblical wisdom and practical advice from a father who is passing on his faith and legacy to the next generation.
