Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

At their best, sports stories reveal something universal about human nature and the challenges we face in everyday life. In too many cases, though, they simply point out the triviality of professional sports and get buried in an avalanche of details. The Boys falls into the latter group. On a game-by-game basis, it recounts the statistics, performances, injuries, and personality clashes of the Dallas Cowboys during the team's 1992 championship season. Much of the tale focuses on the conflict between owner Jerry Jones and coach Jimmy Johnson. The relationship these two men share is complex, but in this telling it comes across as merely petty and uninteresting. The whole production, in fact, moves from player to player without bringing anyone to life. Bayless reads his own material competently, but this production will likely please only die-hard fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for any Dallas Fan. Relives the return to glory!, December 8, 1998

A great behind the scenes look at the first Super Bowl title won by the Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson regime. Really makes you appreciate how rare winning a Super Bowl is and fortunate they are to have won three. Bayless had unlimited access and it shows.

4.0 out of 5 stars A treasure trove of Cowboys insider information., April 13, 2006
This review is from: The Boys (Hardcover)
I have been a Cowboys fan since 1978, when I was 6. I have read about 5 Cowboys books in my life, but this one is the most explosive. Skip Bayless is certainly biased here, but the amount of dirt he dishes up on the Boys' is incredible. A must read for any serious cowboys fan.

Skip Bayless is a jerk. Skip this book. There are too many others with better authors.
