4.0 out of 5 stars Stands its Place
Upon hearing that Tony Carey was about to release a new cd I immediatly, ordered a copy with a friend (who has a credit card). It arrived quickly and the disc flew into the cd player. Solitary Man, right on, this is going to be a good cd. We both agreed, the cd is a very good cd, some tracks were not as powerful as the others and seemed like the order was wrong, as in one...

3.0 out of 5 stars Awaited Yet I Still Hesitate
This cd fans have waited years for. It is smooth sounding has quite a few good tracks, my favorite being Solitary Man. Mr. Carey's voice was meant for this song, yet others such as Mrs. Lincoln....well that's up to the true fan who will enjoy anything and everything. My favorites on the cd being Matchgirl, Only the Young and A Long Way From Home, of course along with...

Upon hearing that Tony Carey was about to release a new cd I immediatly, ordered a copy with a friend (who has a credit card). It arrived quickly and the disc flew into the cd player. Solitary Man, right on, this is going to be a good cd. We both agreed, the cd is a very good cd, some tracks were not as powerful as the others and seemed like the order was wrong, as in one before the other, sound wise they would have been better in the reverse. But this is a damned fine cd anyway. Some reviews dont give it the respect it deserves, but they had there say, they either liked or didnt, I liked.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good cd not quite great, however, May 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Boystown Tapes (Audio CD)
This cd is very good in some spots i.e I don't even know her name, when all is said and done, looking at the moon, boystown, it's a beautiful world. I've had it for about two years now and still listen to it. I do like to skip over some songs on it..one thing I can fault with it. It's not his best cd and it's not his least cd..it depends on you're taste. I think most carey fans like the cd..so I say go ahead and buy it if straddling the fence.

This cd fans have waited years for. It is smooth sounding has quite a few good tracks, my favorite being Solitary Man. My favorites on the cd being Matchgirl, Only the Young and A Long Way From Home, of course along with Solitary Man. So Four songs out of 14 is pretty good, seeing these days when we do buy a cd any cd that you want an original of, falls into the same category, no matter who the artist. I do like the hidden track as well, a funky kind of song, that was a surprise to all. Okay so I've moved up to five songs, better yet. I purchased this cd second hand from a friend who had purchased two, one for a friend, but the friend had no good things to say pertaining to the cd. So I review and give three stars for the tracks and also production quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tony's not left us yet, ..., June 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Boystown Tapes (Audio CD)
...in fact, he's getting stronger with the help of the internet spreading his music samples to new listeners. This album easily fits into almost everyone's music collection. It has both ballads and up tempo songs. Tony has given us a full platter with this even without the (*surprize extra track*) and his voice is unmatched. The album opens up very strong with a cover of Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man" and doesn't drop much from there. Other highlights are "Only The Young", "Boystown", and "Mrs. Lincoln." You really get a sense of appreciation for this album while reading the liner notes during your first listening and finding out he does everything or nearly everything himself. One thing keeps this from getting 5 stars and that is hearing bits from his yet to be released Planet P Project album "Go Out Dancing", shows he has even better music in the wings. This album is a Must Have, but then again, since you've already searched for Tony Carey, you already know that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! 5 Stars all the way..., November 3, 1999
This review is from: The Boystown Tapes (Audio CD)
You have to hear it to believe it. This is a classic rock CD. Tony is in a class all by himself. Other classics include Blue Highway, Storyville & For You. I can't wait for the next one! Tony, keep them coming, and let us know when you are going to tour!

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm Pleased a Little With This One!, March 28, 2002
This review is from: The Boystown Tapes (Audio CD)
Not boggling on my father this time because he bought the cd for me as I wanted this one. This is going to be a short review. The songs are only - good. They don't stand up anywhere close to previous years, and with the feel of the cd, I think he wrote the stuff quite a few years ago, then got a contract for it and released. If you listen to the songs closely theres no problem to notice that his voice faulters in many places throughout the disc. A Long Way From Home is a great song, and reminds me so much of the other music my father has, that basically he doesn't listen to any more and I've taken over the reign. It's just so familiar for some reason but its not on any cd of course, yet the music, he has used that music somewhere. I do like this cd, notice I did say, I like, but am not jumping with joy that I have it. I'm giving it four stars because it was waited for for so long, every fan I talk to over the internet on various sites all say the same thing they love it. So heres a donation of 4 stars from all of those who havn't reviewed The Boystown Tapes

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album with huge potential and great width!, August 19, 1999
By A Customer

I can't get enough of it! Tony has such a great feeling for intelligent lyrics with depth and the way he sings, he's so complete and it's all there on this record. There aren't one or two best songs on the album because all of them are so good in different ways. Ok, there is one absolute favorite; You Laugh At Me is really special. Thank you Tony!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not his best but fairly good!, February 11, 2003
This review is from: The Boystown Tapes (Audio CD)
Tony Carey's musical approach is very pleasant with its rather laid back style and Carey's smooth voice. On "The boystown tapes" he still travels down this musical road, but he have certainly done better, especially on "Storyville" which is Carey's best album ever. But even this album sure have some highlight, and songs like "Only the young" and "Fool's gold" are among the better in Carey's career.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cd, September 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Boystown Tapes (Audio CD)
This is a good cd by tony carey. Only one hard rocker on here..A long way from home. The other songs that I like on here are when it all said and done, boystown, matchgirl, looking at the moon..I mean all are good I just like these better. It might not be around too much longer...the boystown tapes so if you don't have a copy it would be a good idea to pick up one.

This is an excellent cd about 11 songs that are very strong on it. It's not quite new anymore, but if haven't heard anything from tony carey for a while and don'thave this cd it will make an excellent addtion to your collection.
