Where the Boyz Are,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boyz (MP3 Download)
Sri Lankan hip-hop activist MIA is famous for her public stands. For a time, she was barred from entering the US. Her sophomore album,"Kala",is a critical hit.In "Boyz",MIA protests violence and machismo. It had the potential for being a fun, catchy song. Instead,it's dull and repetitive. Her call for a mobilization on behalf of peace is surprisingly... awful. It's sonic proof that not all world music is good music. The lyrics to "Boyz" are uncreative. One can better imagine it thumping from a ghetto blaster than a song that catches one's attention. It's not fighting fire with fire,it's fighting war with... awful music. |
