3.0 out of 5 stars A fairly decent compilation of assort trance, August 25, 2003
This review is from: Bpm Presents: That Trance Mix 2 (Audio CD)
As opposed to many other albums that pass themselves off as "Trance" (i.e. Best of Trance series) with their comprimising EuroDance undertones, this album actually contains... for the most part...trance. The mixing is fairly good and the vocals aren't at all cheesy. A lot of big name DJs (Ferry Corsten, Blank and Jones, gusgus, Lange, etc.) round out this 2-cd set, making it an overall decent mix.

A good buy for someone who is new to trance, although a tranceaddict might want to look elsewhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Decent Set Of Diverse Trance, January 7, 2006
This review is from: Bpm Presents: That Trance Mix 2 (Audio CD)
A notch down from its predecessor, That Trance Mix 2 fails to feature enough good material to fill two discs. Disc one and two both feature good songs and good mixing, but neither are special enough to make this album shine.

Disc 1:
You Are, the first track, might be the best song from either disc. The ambience and vocals are excellent. The next three tracks are mediocre cuts, but Gouryella's Ligaya makes things interesting. Being one of Ferry Corsten & DJ Tiësto's rare collaborations, this track is one of the best on this CD. The next three tracks are alright, and although Proceed is cheesy, it's undeniably intense. Finally, Drifting Away's presence humbles the mix before it ends fairly with The End.

Disc 2:
Highlights:
Matt Darey's U Shine On
Energy 52's Cafe Del Mar
Paffendorf's Be Cool & Joy Kitikonti's Joy Don't Stop rule!
Hi-Gate's Saxuality
Moby's In My Heart ends the mix nicely
Dreamland's Nu-NRG is cool

This is a good mix if it's on sale. I wouldn't recommend it to a new trance listener. I would recommend it to a trance addict.

4.0 out of 5 stars BPM's Back With That Trance Mix 2, March 24, 2003

The Spastic Fantastic Mighty House Cat "Frosty5" (Waltham, Massachusetts, United States, Planet Earth) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bpm Presents: That Trance Mix 2 (Audio CD)
Just released by BPM Magazine, the second volume to That Trance Mix. Introducing, That Trance Mix 2. It's a 2 CD set with 12 tracks on each disc. Have the first CD and enjoyed it? You might like this album. On the first disc, you'll find songs by Cirrus, Gusgus, Gouryella, Ferry Corsten, Blank & Jones, Milk Inc., Nu Scape and more. Nu Scape's "The End" is the last track on disc one. I just heard the song and I like it. The album includes another good song, "DJs' Fans & Freaks". "DJs' Fans & Freaks" is by the german DJ duo Blank & Jones. What I like best about disc one is Ferry Corsten's "Punk". Man, do these dutchmen know how to make a song this good. PPK is also on disc one. You're probably thinking "Resurrection". The song on here by PPK is actually "Reload". It kind of sounds similar to "Resurrection". Not just some of the same synthesizers but one of the synthes uses the same notes for "Reload" as they do in "Resurrection". Disc one's not bad overall. But disc two I like better. Disc two includes songs by Christopher Lawrence (he appeared in volume one), Matt Darey, Higate, System F (he too appeared in the first volume), Joy Kitikonti (so did he), Digital Blonde, Moby, Paffendorf and more. Christopher Lawrence returns with "October's Child", System F with "Solstice" and Joy Kitikonti's back with "Joy Don't Stop". The same equipment used for "Joyenergizer" is used in this rampant trance song "Joy Don't Stop" (well at least the weird synthes that sounded like a flying saucer in "joyenergizer"). "Mooga" by Digital Blonde is another cool track. It's like an alien invasion theme song. I also liked "Be Cool" by Paffendorf (Everybody be cool, You be cool). Reitveld's "Don't you Want Me" is another nice song. "Saxuality" by Higate uses (what else?) a saxophone in their song. Great listening to the song during sunset in the city. Overall the album isn't as bad. I only wish they had those short bios in the booklet like the kind from volume one. I wanna learn more about Blank & Jones. I give this compilation 4 out of 5.
