Ryan Adams, I think you married the wrong girl. You knew her as the ace rock star drummer in Unisex Salon, Les Fleurs Tragiques, and Laptop. On her debut solo outing (which translates as burn, burn in French) the hot and fabulous Ms. Torrisi has re-emerged as an alternative country rock goddess! With melodies to die for, and a sultry behind-the beat delivery the works every time, cuts including "Hungry Like Me," "X in Texas" and "Storm Clouds" ache in all the right places. Lucinda Williams, Shelby Lynn, and Patti Griffin eat your heart out! Bruler Bruler is certainly among the best debuts of 2009.

I've been lucky enough to catch Torrisi live in Austin--she and her eclectic band put on a seductive, soul-stirring live show. Thrilled to finally have the album--it follows through and then some, with her smooth, sultry voice and rhythmic surprises around every turn. An indie/bluesy-pop sound with a bit of country twang thrown in for good measure. Her songs take you on an ever-replayable ride from hungry lover, to love lost and lover scorned ("ex" in Texas), to the cathartic release of "the brighter side." Sexy and soulful, she grabs your heart from the first note and refuses to let it go. Can't stop playing it, my new favorite!

This album is tops on my list (and gift list) this year. Jessie's original songwriting mixed with her sultry, sexy voice make for an impressive first album. All I can say is buy it and see for yourself.
