5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had had this when I had my braces, October 8, 2009

Yum! I just baked the sour cream coffee cake in this cookbook; I wish I had had this cookbook when I had my braces on -- over an year ago. I was an adult -- in my early 40s -- on my second round of braces. The first time was as a teenager; frankly, I don't remember what I ate back then, but I don't recall that it was as uncomfortable as this second time around. The key factor for food is that it had to be SOFT.

The thing with soft is that it gets pretty boring. At least that was the case for me, even though I had no qualms about mushing things up. When I got this book, I was kind of expecting boring mushy looking foods. To my very pleasant surprise, this is not the case at all. The recipes look great -- very tasty looking, but also simple and uncomplicated -- and the photos are beautiful. And as they explain, it's for adults. It's bad enough looking like a teenage metalmouth without being able to eat grown-up food.

The authors have done braces-wearers a great service by focusing on softness -- which is paramount -- but not skimping on flavor or the quality of the cookbook. The coffee cake I just made was easy and yummy. These recipes aren't just for braces-weares, by the way; I plan to check out some of the other recipes, too.
