I bought this after some Internet research, so I didn't have prior experience with one. I was delighted to see how well designed and carefully machined it was when I received it. There are no stamped parts; everything is either milled or turned from aluminum alloy stock. Thus, all parts fit together well, and the product is sturdy throughout. The design is clearly very well thought out. The camera mounts on a slide for easy positioning horizontally. The flash arm attaches on a turned post and locks into place with a set screw on a handle onto a keyed flat. Registration is solid and firm. The flash arm is thick enough to be store without being bulky. It takes my SB-900 without bending. It took me a minute of study to see how to flip the camera to a vertical position, but it really is simple and easy to do once you see how the mechanism is designed. Once vertical, it is held in place with a small lever. I use a Nixon SC-29 interconnecting cable between my D90 and the flash. Ther is plenty of room for it. The flash is held firmly in place by a quarter-20 bolt on a machined wheel that pulls it down onto a rubber-coated pad on the top of the arm. It all is well thought out and manufactured. The camera slide is a bit tricky to get back onto the base after it has been removed, but eventually I saw how to do it. I used the rig with my monopole and also with my tripod. It works well. Once fully loaded with D90, SB-900, and a long lens, it is heavy, but that's just the way it is. This is a great buy.

Just got this bracket this week. First impression - great product. It seems well-built and it works as advertised. I had pondered forking out a lot of money for a Custom Bracket but thought I would try the Alzo bracket first. I am glad I did. I had been using Stroboframe flip brackets but they won't accommodate my Canon 7d with a battery grip attached. There is more than enough room with the Alzo bracket. It has some great features, including a telescoping pole to raise the flash higher or lower above the camera. The bracket can be used by either righthand or lefthand shooters. Even though I am a righthand shooter, I set up the bracket as a lefthand shooter might, allowing me easier access to the camera shutter button when it is on a vertical plane. That puts the handle and telescoping pole on the lefthand side of the camera. My only minor complaint so far is the release buttons for the flip mechanism take some getting used to. It would be nice if there were only a single lever or button, instead of two different mechnisms to lock the camera in position in either the vertical or horizontal plane. I shoot weddings and I need to be able to quickly swivel the camera from horizontal to vertical planes without having to fish for the release buttons. This will probably become more of a non-issue as I get used to it.

I've been looking for a fairly inexpensive bracket for some time. While I occasionally do non-studio/non-tripod portrait photography that I know would be improved by getting flash off the camera hot shoe, I wouldn't be using a bracket often enough to justify a multi-hundred dollar investment. Finding a well-made bracket with the desired features in my preferred price range was unsuccessful until I located the ALZO Flip Flash Bracket. The design is well thought-out with very nice quick setup and release features, and the aluminum construction is sturdy enough even for my Nikon D300 with the battery pack. The tripod-style locking clamps for the telescoping arm work well and the horizontal flash mount bracket is strong enough to hold two flashes. The ability to instantaneously switch between horizontal and vertical camera orientations is great and while there is a little play in the camera flip mount, it is not to such a degree to be a problem and is the only reason I did not give five stars. All-in-all, I'm very satisfied and think the under-a-hundred-dollars price provides excellent value.

I have been looking for a flash bracket like this for years. Most brackets are stationary and to change the orientation of the camera you have to unscrew the camera and either use another bracket or screw the camera back to the bracket in the horizontal position. This bracket is amazing. It allows you to flip from horizontal to vertical with a single button release. In my business I shoot team sports and need flip the camera constantly. This bracket makes this a breeze. The unit is very well made. All of the important parts are made of metal not plastic. It is very sturdy and the telescoping flash bar is perfect if you need to get the flash high off the camera for any reason. I would recommend this to any professional.

I had a fellow photographer friend show me his camera bracket a couple years ago and I loved the design and functionality of it. I wanted one just like it. So I began my search for it. To my surprise, it was VERY hard to find, to the point of it being unusual. Well, when I did find the bracket months later, I was saddened to learn it was $299. However, I did find a product that had similar functionality and a few other features that I liked, in kind of a trade-off, compared to my friend's bracket. After buying this bracket from ALZO Digital directly, I was very pleased with its functionality, and it did everything they claimed it did.

The bracket slides on the articulating mount easily and the fasteners tighten down well. The mast extends very high and allows you to really get some dramatic lighting options in the various heights that you can get your flash into.

My first gripe about the product is that it doesn't have a stand, like the one my friend's bracket has. I can't just set it down anywhere. This isn't too much a problem, since you can attach it to a tripod, which is the solution I came up with.

The bracket also allows you to attach an optional umbrella mount for 2-flashes. When you place two flashes and the ALZO-umbrella on it and raise the mast, the higher you raise it (about one metre or about 3 feet), creates a serious cantilever effect that makes the bracket rather difficult to keep still. It wants to tip on you really badly. Mind you, if you've got a strong grip (and you sure need one), you'll find this a challenge to hold. My advice, if you're using 2-flashes, is to keep the flashes small, and the mast not extended so high, of if you need more light, go big-flashes, raise it as high as you want, but keep it mounted on a tripod.
