I looked around on the web (a lot) for hot water heaters, focusing on make and models with the key word "Problems". Bradford White had zero at the time of my purchase (and still looks to be that way). I can't say that for the other big name brands out there. I'm happy with the BW hot water heater...I'm sure there are a lemon or two out there, but that's the case with any product. Check out for yourself, via the web, all the problems with W-Pool and other big name brands you'll see what I'm talking about...big problems!
Only 4 stars for this water heater because of price...not cheap but well made.

note a lot of bashing of this heater on this forum by people who didn't buy them here. I'm a plumbing contractor and have been installing Bradford White for over 20 years. In a typical year I would install 50 of these. I've also been manufacturers rep for other makers of water heates. Bradford White, the only USA made heater (Union Made too) is a superior heater. Control failures are usually customer unable to read the relighting sequence printer on the heater. Early tank failures (earlier than 12-15 years) are indicative of either very aggressive water or installation issues such as failure to recognize and install thermal expansion control tanks on systems that require same. I make my living with these, selling and servicing them. i also work on the others. A small percentage of tanks can have manufacturing defects, but its not the normal cause of tank or control problems. You can buy (your plumber can sell) a warranty extension to 10 years. Same heater, you pay a bit more for the peace of mind. These are a plumbers water heater, not normally available retail. Good results from a water heater installation come from having an experienced plumber install. Your cousin or brother in law may be a fine guy, but have the water heater done by a pro. A real pro, go to the Bradford White online site if you need help locating a qualified plumber. On last thing. Bradford White stands strongly behind its product in terms of warranty. Folks who indicate issues are being given bad advise by guys who don't know how to get warrant service initiated (Again, see Bradford White website for help). Last gift to you for reading through, type in the model number and search for prices, some of these Amazon partner resellers have crazy pricing.Read more ›

I bought this water heater 2 years ago. It comes with a 6 year warranty and already I have had problems with it. I paid $755 and now I am paying $180 dollars for repairs. The part was covered under the warranty but the labor is outrageous. This is a joke. A water heater should last longer than this especially if just one person is using it. Don't buy keep looking for something else.

I had two of these put in my new house. It's only 5.5 years and the tank started to slowly leak from the top. Luckily, I'm still within warranty..but I'm not sure I want to pay $250 for labor to put this in. I have several rentals and have bought the home depot and lowe's model and they don't even go out after 8 years. What's the deal with Bradford White?
