First, the obvious...yes this knife is expensive. However, if you're looking at this or are in the market for it you probably already know why. But just in case you don't, this knife has a story: The Bradley Cutlery Alias 2 was developed in response to the sporadic availability of another very highly sought-after knife (Chris Reeve Sebenza). The developer grew tired of turning away customers who wanted a constantly back-ordered Sebenza so he decided to develop a competitor to the Sebenza in order to capture that particular customer base. I'll quote...

"...the Elkhart, Indiana based company was founded from pure frustration by a knife distributor annoyed about the continual backorder status of Chris Reeve Sebenza knives. Not having inventory to offer his customers, the owner, (Brad) of Bradley Cutlery decided that he could build a 100% American made Sebenza equivalent using the same materials, but make the knives readily available and a lot less expensive."

Specifications:

* Blade Material: S30V Blade Steel Hardened to 58-60 HRC
* Blade Length: 2.95"
* Blade Thickness: .120"
* Blade Style: Modified Spear Point w/ Anodized Aluminum Thumb Stud
* Open Length: 6.8"
* Closed Length: 3.87"
* Weight: 3.0 oz.
* Handle Material: Bead Blast 6AL 4V Titanium Handle
* Handle Thickness: 0.402"
* Locking Mechanism: Titanium Monolock
* Carrying Mechanism: Large Sleek Carry-Clip/ Lanyard Hole

At the time of my writing this, with some shopping you can purchase the Alias 2 for about half the price of a CR Sebenza 21, so the Alias 2 represents a comparatively good value and an outstanding knife by any standard.

This knife was purchased as a more economical alternative to a Chris Reeve Sebenza. I can't comment on the quality of the later, but the build quality of this knife does speak strongly to its made-in-America heritage. The blade lockup is vault-like, the titanium scale making contact with over half the blade width. The pocket clip is held on with not two but three torx screws and is surprisingly firm. This knife will NOT come unclipped accidentally. It's a solid knife, to be sure, and the S30V blade steel is a dream if you like to go months/years between sharpenings.

Let me also add that, as the first reviewer noted, the size is very nice for a daily carry knife. The width allows it to slip discretely and comfortably into the pocket, and the handle length is just perfect for my average sized hand.

Referring back to its bombproof construction, however, come two downsides:

1) The pocket clip is TOO rigid. It's hard on pockets where it's clipped (i.e. it wears down the material over time) and just can't be reasonably used to clip it to something thicker (like a belt).
2) The detent which holds the blade in the closed position, at least on my example of the Alias II, is incredibly strong. Combined with the tapered thumbstud, this makes blade deployment difficult and slow in my experience.

At the end of the day, the practicality of the knife really comes down to one's needs. For most day-to-day tasks, I'd stick with a Benchmade Axis folder for their quick deployment and elegant locking mechanism. If absolute reliability is key, it's hard to beat a titanium-framed, S30V-bladed knife like this, though.

Verified Purchase
High quality blade but the casing was a disappointment. Would have returned the item but it was for a christmas gift and had a 7 day return policy.
