Product Description

Product Description

The Brady IDXPERT v2.0 Portable Label Printer prints via thermal transfer at 300 dots per inch (dpi) on over 140 label materials up to 1.25" character height, and uses a familiar QWERTY keyboard. For use in identifying a variety of items, from cables to equipment, this label printer has a QWERTY keyboard (the standard style on most computers) and prints single- or multi-line on over 140 label materials up to 1.5” wide, in 21 character sizes up to 1.25” height. Use the IDXPERT to create die-cut labels, self-laminating labels, sleeves, slide-in punch block strips and continuous tape labels with 300 dpi for clear, crisp printing. The thermal transfer printing method stays bright and lasts longer than direct thermal printing.

IDXPERT prints characters in 21 font sizes up to 1.25” (7 to 128 point type), on material 1.5” wide, and can print the alphabet, numbers, 82 unique symbols, and bar codes. The quick loading cartridge makes switching jobs faster than other label printers with the Drop, Lock, and Print technology; the label printer automatically senses the cartridge label type and size. Labeler can hold a continuous roll up to 30’ long. The memory feature stores up to 10 setups. The label printer runs on (6) AA-batteries (not included) or optional AC power. Use the optional Brady LabelMark software to create labels on a computer and print from the IDXPERT. Several applications are built into the printer: Wire ID, terminal block strips, patch panel strips, 66-block strips, 110-block strips (with grid lines for 2, 3, 4, and 5 pair), BIX block strips (with grid lines for 2, 3, 4, and 5 pair), Desi-strip/face plate inserts, general ID mode, horizontal serialization, and BackBone serialization. Labeler comes with a 12-month manufacturer warranty.

Label printers, also called label makers or labelers, are a type of computer printer that print on rolled stock or fanfold stock. Label printers are used for many purposes, including asset management, price marking, packaging labels, laboratory specimen marking, and naming file folders. Label printers use a variety of printing technologies, such as laser, thermal transfer and direct thermal mechanisms. Some label printers may interface with a computer to create special types of labels, such as barcodes, while other label printers can create special content using the printer’s own operating system.

I have used this exact product for quite some time, and have no idea why these other folks seem to ahve so many issues with it. I have printed 10's of thousands of labels for cat5, cat6, power, and other cable types with this, and have NEVER had one issue with it. Menu is hard to use? Really? One could read the manual and learn how to navigate it, although I had no issues at all navigating any of the menus without reading the manual. I am only writing this as I was quite surprised to see these reviews when I came to buy another one since they WORK SO WELL, for the new job I am at. I love this label printer.

I use this printer daily and sometimes the smaller one also making wire marker labels for PLC Marshaling Panels in various gas and oil processing plants. I don't understand the negative ratings. This is a good printer and I recommend it to anyone marking cables. I am really puzzled! We bought ours from an electrical supply house not that that matters.

Update 12-26-2014 I was using this printer in very cold temp environment and it does not work well. This was in an outdoor environment with no building near some oil well pads so I put the printer on the dash of my truck and left the truck running with the defroster on high. The printer works good as usual as long as it is warm.

This printer produces high quality labels for a wide range of applications. The outdoor vinyl tape is excellent and the shrinkable wire markers come in a variety of diameters. Unfortunately, my experience with the printer has not been good. Shortly after purchasing the printer with very gentle handling the cam that that holds the cartridge latch closed broke. The internal components are very cheap plastic. I sent the printer back for repair and they shipped back a new one under warranty. I only use it occasionally now but have to remember to feed out blank tape before printing. It sometimes sucks the tape back into the cartridge before starting to print and usually the tape end gets jammed somewhere in the cartridge. I've thrown out several mostly full cartridges because I was not able to unjam them.

Often after installing a cartridge the printer does not see it and gives an error when I try to print. The error message only displays for about a quarter of a second so you have to press print repeatedly and look closely to read it. Clearing the problem takes several tries of taking out, reinserting, closing the latch, tapping on it to get it to work. This is the most finicky, frustrating printer I've ever used. I recommend avoiding this label printer.

I needed this labeler to create bar-code labels for my company. The menus are very difficult to navigate and are not intuitive in any way. I had to call customer support just to get the lables to print with bar codes. The menu path the tech support person had me use was not listed in the user manuel.
This labeler is so difficult and cumbersome to use that no one in my office will use it anymore. We have used Brady labelers before and have usually been very pleased with them. However, you will be dissappointed in this labeler, avoid it at all costs.
We have now purchased a new Brady Labeler (#BMP21) which is much cheaper and very user friendly.
