5.0 out of 5 stars For Brahms Specialists, August 8, 2003
By
This review is from: The Brahms Notebooks: The Little Treasure-Chest of the Young Kreisler : Quotations from Poets, Philosophers, and Artists (Ex) (Paperback)
This is a complation of 645 short passages Brahms kept in notebooks from the age of twenty. The are a invaluable insight into his taste in literature, mainly Jean Paul and Goethe. This collection of primary source material is definitely for the specialist in Brahms, as the reader should already know the main outlines of German literary history and its influence on Brahms and other composers. Beautiful presentation of the translations and reproduction of the original German text.
