5.0 out of 5 stars No problems here, November 30, 2009

This review is from: Brahms: The Sextets (Audio CD)
The reviewer above who rates the performance poorly because his disc cuts off the last movement is in error. There may be a problem with HIS disc but my copy, which I've had for many years, is fine. The last movement of Op. 36 is 8:37 long, just as advertised.

While I slightly prefer the RaphaelEnsemble performance for this piece, I've long admired Hausmusik and they do a superb job here. Don't hesitate to get this disc. Both sound & playing are excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brahms sextets, March 18, 2010

Excellent performance. Played on instruments with gut strings,as would have been true in Brahms's era, I prefer this performance to its modern competitor, The Nash Ensemble.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective recording, August 28, 2009
This review is from: Brahms: The Sextets (Audio CD)
The final movement of Brahms' Second Sextet on this recording is incomplete. It cuts off suddenly mid-way through the piece, at 4:06. Looking at the written score of the work, it's considerably longer than that. This recording is woefully incomplete. Find another recording of the work. This one should be taken off the market until Hausmusik London can correct the defect in the recording. I'm going to find a different recording.

UPDATE: I DID in fact find another version of this recording (the Hausmusik London) to the final movement of the second sextet. The online service that I use (eMusic) reposted the album, but with a complete final movement. The final movement should be 8 minutes and 38 seconds long. The defective version is the one where the final track is 4 minutes and 6 seconds.

DO NOT BUY THE AMAZON MP3. If you order from Amazon, you MUST order the physical disk and have it shipped to you.

It still gets one star because of the difficulties of getting a version of this recording with a complete final track. Without the defect it gets 5 stars.
