Poor Proofreading = Baffler,
By kknighty (Kennebunk, ME) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brain Bafflers (Official Mensa Puzzle Book) (Paperback)
A book like this really suffers from poor proofreading in the form of typos that make the problems impossible to solve. I have simply found too many typos to make this book remotely enjoyable. In theory a great book of puzzles, but poor execution and attention to detail makes this book a real disappointment.

Typo-laden,

Rampant typos make this book thoroughly unenjoyable. It is really no fun to break your brain for 30 minutes trying to solve a puzzle, only to discover that your effort has been in vain because the premise of the puzzle had a typo. I am talking about critical number typos in number puzzles, not little misspellings. Wrong answers. Inconsistencies.
And trust me on this - I'm no slouch when it comes to hard puzzles.

That's Right MENSA - I Corrected Your Puzzles,
By MicahA (Shoreline, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brain Bafflers (Official Mensa Puzzle Book) (Paperback)
Brain Teasers is not "genius level" difficult. Some of the questions involve basic probability. Others involve simply algebra. But there are some that are truly a challenge. Those questions are thoroughly enjoyable.
That said, MENSA should be ashamed at the errors in both the questions and - I'd argue "especially" - the answer key. The answer key is simply RIDDLED with errors. Sometimes these errors involve a simply number switch. Other times they are simply nonsensical. Without having the book on hand, I recall that one answer was (correctly) 63/16. For no apparent reason, the answer key said: "...and they will meet in 63/16 hours = 315/16 days." Wait... what? 63/16 hours is not and never will be 315/16 days. This type of error is the least flagrant of all of their issues. Sometimes the answer will just be flat out incorrect. In addition, sometimes the numbers provided in the puzzles to solve for the "correct" answer are equally erroneous. Seriously - this is a book published by MENSA. I'm guessing they outsourced their work.
