An okay romance - up until the end, March 17, 2003

This review is from: The Brain & The Beauty (Silhouette Romance) (Paperback)
This was one of the better Silhouette Romances I've read in a while. It centers around Abby Melrose's desire to find someone who will help her to understand her super-intelligent son. She travels up to the Berkshires to meet Dr. Jeremy Waters, a former child prodigy and highly intelligent man. To her surprise, Dr. Waters is unwilling to work with her and has no desire to have any contact with children. Abby is determined to get him to help her son and equally determined to figure out what has happened to Dr. Waters to make him this way. The story is charming for the most part, and the characters are genuinely likable. The author's writing style was good, and the dialogue did not feel forced as it does in some romances. The last chapter was a bit too over-the-top for my tastes, though. That and the stereotypical notion that the leading male characters in the novel should have all the smarts while the leading females have the good hearts and intuition were the only things that bothered me, though. Definitely worth an afternoon!
