As a fitness expert and author myself, I found I was nodding in agreement all throughout this book with both the importance that the brain plays in weight loss as well as the recommendations for how to fix it.

The book starts out with a lengthy explanation as to why the brain is important. Followed up by an explanation of the four primary brain chemicals that when imbalanced, can cause weight (and other) issues.

Although I was familiar with this stuff, I suppose many people who haven't spent years studying this would find it incredibly insightful. The good news is, it's written in a very easy to understand way that the average person can understand.

The next part goes into dietary recommendations. I generally agree with most of what is recommended, but of course there will always be debates about what the best diet is. I'm glad they made diet the focal point however as many people tend to rely on drugs or supplements to fix their problems, but the first step should always be addressing dietary issues.

It then goes into details on supplements that can be taken. This is where a lot of the value of the book comes in.

One thing that would have been nice would be more focus on what is most essential vs. what is somewhat optional supplement wise. It can be easy to get bogged down with the big list of things you can take.

Another thing I noticed were some errors on the dosing recommendations for supplements like melatonin (referred to as grams instead of milligrams in some parts). It's a small over sight, but some people could be thrown off by this if they don't know better so I wanted to point it out.

The real value in this book is that changing the brain will affect many other areas of life outside of weight loss. In fact, I would argue that weight loss would be second to just feeling a whole lot better when you get this stuff fixed.

I never would've thought the brain played such an important role in weight loss, but this book makes total sense of it without any hint of boring technical talk.

What I absolutely love about this book is it doesn't set us up with promises of something new only to sneak in some sort of restrictive diet as the solution and answer. That's typical of almost all weight loss books on the market. They start out interesting and different, but then end up no different than the rest of the books with the solution being some sort of unnatural and unsustainable restriction whether it be a low carb diet, going gluten-free, doing paleo, or restricting your calories to the point of starvation.

Most times the advice in those books is good, but the problem lies in that it has become generic and un-motivating and to an even larger extent, unpractical for most people. We give up after a while and go find another book that starts out great, but then leads us down a similar path. We keep going in circles. With this book you don't get that. It breaks new ground to which diet and exercise aren't the big answers. It gives us new answers and a new way of looking at the weight loss process. There is minimal diet advice and there aren't even any diets listed. Exercise is barely mentioned.

Of course eating a good diet and having plenty of physical activity is important for weight loss, but I know plenty of people who eat healthy and exercise daily and still can't lose weight. I'm one of them. Maybe, just maybe, diet and exercise aren't the 2 most important requirements in order to lose weight for a lot of the population.

The USA is the fattest nation in the world even though we're also the most diet and exercise-obsessed nation in the world. Something is amiss. How could that be? I don't know but this book makes a great argument that the brain is the new battle line in the weight loss war.

I bought this book after getting an email from Jen about it today. I have almost all of her Amazon books and reports as well as most of the ebooks she sells on her website and even more weight loss books from other authors.

Along with her 1-Day Diet book, this is my favorite book. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism a year ago and was struggling with weight gain up until I started her 1 Day Diet and using some of her exercise and hypothyroidism tips.

The main idea you'll get from Brain Controlled Weight Loss is that if you have a chemical imbalance in your brain, diet and exercise probably won't help much for weight loss until you fix your brain's chemical imbalance. If you're overweight and lack energy, you probably have an imbalance.

I don't know how much of an imbalance I have because I'm losing weight but I'm going to follow the instructions and bring balance to my brain and hope it speeds up my weight loss even more.

I don't have any results to report because I just bought it and read it today but I wanted to say it's an excellent book that brings a whole new dimension to weight loss that doesn't revolve around dieting and exercise. It's well written and a lot longer than most of her other kindle books. It's worth buying and looks like it will compliment and improve the results of any diet or exercise program you're currently doing.

Wow, a concept that has escaped many diet and exercise writers many times over! "Fix the brain, Fix the body, Fix the baggage", is what Jolan says. And, I know that many of us carry baggage that is most likely causing us to gain weight or at the very least have embraced the scenerio (not happily, I might add!)of losing weight and gaining it back and then some!

This book addresses some of the failures that may had occurred in the past and how to prevent them in the future. The emotional issues that plague us month after month (year after year!) may not be genetically related! I found that the information about the foods that we eat to be very interesting. The things to look for when food shopping, the foods to watch out for, the processes that we have no idea occur in the food that we buy...quite enlightening, to say the least.

I found this to be a great starting point to reprogram my brain into realizing what my body needs and what it does not. I am going to try many of the ideas, including the natural supplements and do some "fixin'"!!! Time to use my brain!
