Client-centered exercises that accompany the concepts put forward in Being a Brain-Wise Therapist and make the theoretical practical.

Chock-full of exercises and strategies, this book will allow clients to deepen the key principles of interpersonal neurobiology that Bonnie Badenoch wrote about in her earlier book. Topics include spotting implicit patterns, observing the bond with kindness, expanding our coherent narratives, coming to terms with the passage of time, and weaving brain talk into personal understanding.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“In The Brain-Savvy Therapist’s Workbook, Bonnie Badenoch seamlessly integrates principles of neurobiology into the therapy session. By working through clinical examples and exercises, the reader experiences how psychotherapeutic strategies are intertwined with brain structures and the neural processes involved in learning, memory, and visceral feelings. This clearly-written volume will change how therapy is conducted.” (Stephen W. Porges, PhD, Director, Brain-Body Center, Department of Psychiatry, University of Illinois at Chicago, and author of The Polyvagal Theory )

“This book provides wonderfully rich new vistas on the compelling, growing field of interpersonal neurobiology. Therapists and patients will benefit from Badenoch’s powerful narrative thread from neuroscience discoveries to the deepest aspects of personal relationships. This workbook is a must-read.” (Marco Iacoboni, neuroscientist, University of California at Los Angeles, and author of Mirroring People: The Science of Empathy and How We Connect with Others )

4.0 out of 5 stars A Guidebook for New Therapists, April 30, 2011
This review is from: The Brain-Savvy Therapist's Workbook (Norton Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology) (Paperback)
If you are going to read this book and use it as a workbook I'd suggest you maybe read Being a Brain-Wise Therapist: A Practical Guide to Interpersonal Neurobiology (Norton Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology) first to really find out what a Brain-Wise Therapist is and how the brain works. This book has a short section on "Brain Basics" which is somewhat helpful. There is a discussion on neuroplasticity that explains how you can change the brain. This book is also filled with stories about the author's patients and a useful section on how to create a safe space for patients at your office. This book will work best for therapists who like writing in a journal. There are many exercises to complete and a lot of contemplation over the concepts.
