Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for the Compact Third Edition:
"The compact edition of The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates is a phenomenally useful research tool. It provides a complete and highly accurate map of the entire rat CNS. The CD version has proven to be highly practical. Quickly, we can generate brain drawings that are easily modified and can be used in scientific publications. My only regret is it cannot write the papers for our research studies."
--ARTHUR D. LOEWY, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri

4.0 out of 5 stars Despite a couple of problems, an invaluable research tool, June 24, 2008
Paxinos & Watson's rat brain atlas is the most cited and used brain atlas in research labs, and it deserves that status. However, in a couple places it may be misleading or confusing. This is particularly evident in the brainstem. We have found irregularities in the ventrolateral medulla (both caudal and rostral) in this book (co-labeled as C1 and A1), as well as an apparent mix-up between the obex and calamus scriptorius of the rat. However, in the grand scheme of things, this atlas is a great tool to have. Also, the vector graphics data provided on the CD is an INVALUABLE tool when preparing figures.

Very detailed map of brain stuctures, 3D coordinates provided. A must for brain surgery, cannulations, lesions, or analysis of structural deformities in a rat brain.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exhaustive look at the rat brain, March 21, 2006

I would have like to get the book sized version instead of this oversized edition. The size is just a little cumbersome. The CD-ROM is great for generating maps of relevant sructures for publication.
