I read Steve's book at a time when my father suffered a major stroke. I was in shock, didn't know what was happening or what was going to happen. Reading about the hope and possibilities of surviving, and the brain's ability to come back was so inspiring and comforting. It really is about the road to recovery. My dad recovered fully at 85 years old. Great read!

Horrible book. The reason it took this jackass years to recover is because he refused to go to rehab and he refused medical help and aides that he needed. Not to say that recovery does not take years but did he really expect to will himself recovered? I didn't even know it was possible not to go to rehab and just go home. My husband has a TBI and is in the recovery process so I have learnedly more about this than I cared to ever know. Rehab is there to help re-teach you all of the things it took this guy so long to do on his own. That way when you do get to return home it will be closer to "normal". And at a rehab center they know about how to treat and administer things with this type of injury like medication, depression, and other things this man and many other TBI patients experience throughout this.

A close friend and I were riding our motorcycles when he was struck by a driver not paying attention. He broke a lot of bones and had a severe traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma. I bought every book that I could find about head injuries including Brain Trauma and a Road to Recovery which helped me understand and what was going on with my friend. Although he is still recovering, he has improved a lot. This book helped his family and I know what to expect and how to help him. I recommend it highly for anyone who has a head injury and especially for the family and friends of motorcycle riders who get any level of severity of head trauma.Brain Trauma and a Road to Recovery: There Is Hope

More About the Author

By looking at all of the machines that I was connected to that kept me alive and the severe facial deformities it must have been obvious that I had also suffered a severe brain injury. The trauma doctor's first sentence was, "people who suffer significant brain damage for head injuries like the one your son has normally do not make it to the hospital let alone through the first night".

Fast forward 7 years after the accident and my head injury; although that I have fully recovered and have built the life that I want, I can't imagine ever experience the unbearable struggles or trying to relearn everything again.

Brain Trauma and a Road to Recovery takes you through my painful journey, but I am extremely fortunate to be here, let alone be able to write a book; there truly is hope.

Steve
