This Book Should Be Required Reading for Everyone,
By B. A. Davis (Kansas City, MO USA) - See all my reviews I'm not sure exactly what I expected when I picked it up, other than maybe I had a fear that it would fly right over my head because a brain surgeon's writing just might be jammed with complicated medical jargon. I was wrong, and found it readily readable. I was also surprised to find it's not filled with the same mumbo-jumbo I've read in other self-improvement books, which can not only be difficult to comprehend but often fail to offer any reasonable life-changing suggestions. From the opening chapter about life experiences of people who've suffered from brain-drain and overcome it, to succeeding chapters about how the brain actually functions; determining whether you're at risk; how to care and feed your brain and body through nutrition and exercise; which nutrional supplements work and which don't really help your body or brain in the least; and how exercise makes a dramatic difference in your brain functions and your overall outlook on life, The Brain Trust Program unfolds in easy-to-read fashion. There's even a chapter specifically devoted to menopause, migraine headaches, how to prevent your senses from dimming over time and how to potentially offset the dreaded effects of Alzeheimer's Disease, which so many of us either now face or will face in the coming years. Also included are some great mental exercises, much like gym workouts, designed to help you in a matter of weeks start improving your brain and eventually keeping your brain whip-sharp along the way. They even help you improve your brain power far into the future. It's a program that simply lets you work at your own pace to improve your mental and physical abilities today, tomorrow and for the rest of your life. Unlike so many other similar books, The Brain Trust Program isn't a chore or drudgery. It's fun, and you'll wonder why it took so long for somebody to make such easy, simple-to-follow suggestions, along with why you hadn't figured it out yourself and started improving your life sooner. I know this might seem as if I'm gushing, but I'm genuinely surprised by how much I thought I knew about improving my mind and body before I opened this book, and then shockingly realized I didn't know as much as I thought. I believe this book can make a significant difference in my life. And it can also make a difference in your life, in the lives of your children and especially in the lives of your parents and grandparents. The Brain Trust Program should be required reading for everyone.

A MUST READ IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR OWN HEALTH,
By In this book you'll find awfully interesting, practical, explanations and a simple how-to help yourself guide. Dr McCleary's book is easy and enjoyable to read, so much so that I gave it to my 12 year old with the warning: "This is the most important book about your health you can ever read." A few hours later she was saying, "You know, mom? If I load myself with candy bars this is what happens to my brain..." To say I was thrilled to hear my daughter talking about the effect of sugar overload is an understatement. Dr McCleary's book might well become the key to good health to today's youth and the starting point to healing and prevention for us, the middle aged. Dr McCleary also has a web site with very good articles (www.drmccleary.com)

This review is from: The Brain Trust Program: A Scientifically Based Three-Part Plan to Improve Memory, Elevate Mood, EnhanceAttention, Alleviate Migraine and Menopausal Symptoms, and Boost Mental Energy (Paperback)
The actual subject about nutrition for your mind is a fascinating one and something that people should be made aware of. The way how this was put in Larry McCleary book was fairly average. I found his real mission was to sell his own range of very overpriced vitamin products. When you have someone selling you their products and talking about medical research then you have a major conflict of interest. About a third of the book is taken up by mind exercise games which are nothing more than very basic adding and subtracting formulas which there are mistakes in.I found Your Miracle Brain by Jean Carper a much better read. Like all this research you need to keep an open mind on it

I have been reading every newly published book that offers any hint of migraine advice. I have stubborn migraines that have stumped my neurologist ad gynecologist. I finally have some control and have reduced my migraines using herbal supplements. This book recommends Taurine and a bunch of other things you can easily get at a vitamin shop. Give it a try if you've tried everything else. I was on Topamax, Gabapentin, and many different birth control pills. I now use magnesium, butterbur (Migra-Eeze) and taurine with co-enzyme Q10 for 3 weeks headache free - then PMS rears its ugly head. My migraine frequency has been reduced as well as the level of pain I experience when I do have a migraine. This book is easy to read and packed full of suggestions! You will not be disappointed. It's a part of my permanent book collection and I refer to it frequently.

Dr McCleary is able to review the relevant research and distill it into useful, meaningful recommendations. I urge everyone over age 40 and anyone caring for aging parents to look at this book very carefully. His advice could save years of anguish.

This book, written by a brain-surgeon, gives you up to date information about how our brain processes memories and how we can use nutrition and supplements to improve our minds and to relieve such maladies as hot flashes and migraines. The explanations as to why women suffer from migraines and hot-flashes was eye-opening.

If ever there was an occasion to issue a must read recommendation, this would be it. The Brain Trust Program, by Dr. Larry McCleary, manages to provide a wealth of information on enhancing and maintaining brain function without being a boring biblically long mechanical medical treatise. Complete with supplementation (vitamin use and recommended dosages) guidelines, this book serves as an interesting read for anyone interested in retaining and preserving cognitive clarity.

"The Brain Trust Program" should be required reading for those of us who have trouble remembering what we were going to say long enough to finish a sentence or where we parked the car; for anyone who suffers from hot flashes or migraines; in fact, for anyone who has a brain. Dr. McCleary's easy-to-understand articles on his Website are an additional bonus. Don't miss a single one.

Make sense but is not as helpful as it can be.,
The book make sense. What would be helpful would be to know what and how much to eat instead of the menu plans. I would like to know how many cups of vegetables, what meat, fruit while paying attention to the glysemic index.
