The cord fit nicely over my ears and after choosing one of the many different size tips I found the size and style that worked best for me.
Happy To Be Here
They have a thicker cord and the aluminum housing feels like it could take some serious abuse.

So these are the latest in my collection of IEMs. I've been testing as many of the ones in the under $150 range as I can get my hands on (and afford). I had the Brainwavz R1 before these but tragically lost them. They were an amazing pair of budget pair of dual driver headphones. They had amazing powerful bass, clarity and soundstage. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a nice pair of headphones in the $40 range. They are the little dual driver brothers to these R3s.

However, these are not the R1s. These are pretty much the exactly opposite in terms of sound signature. They don't have the overwhelming bass that you'd expect with dual drivers. While the R1 had a boomy bass that was its primary characteristic, the bass tends to act as a background player in the R3s. The bass can be quite punchy, but it will be a disappointment to bassheads who want the rumble. The R3s excel in the middle part of the spectrum. Voices and instruments shine wholeheartedly. Everything comes through clearly and there is defined separation between each individual participant. The level of detail is extraordinary.

Unfortunately, while I very much appreciated the sound signature, I had to dock it a star for two pretty major issues. First, these headphones require a music source that can pump out power or an amp. The impedance in the R3s is quite high, and I was not able to get the volume or the level of bass that I wanted without an amp. If you're planning on wearing these connected to a cell phone, it may not be enough to drive these to give you the best quality of sound. My second issue with these headphones is the cord. The cord is VERY thick and solid. It certainly seems very durable.

Everything about these headphones speaks of quality and craftsmanship. The materials of construction and the engineering in the design is top notch. The wire is about twice as thick as some other earphones that I have listened to and the conductor inside is Oxygen Free Copper to reduce the corrosion and thus the degradation of the earphones from oxidation of the copper. The plugs on the earphones and on all of the accessories are gold plated to also stop oxidation that changes the impedance of the wire and the connections. This helps to insure perfect transmission of the electrical signals from your device to the earphones.

All of the connections along the wire are assembled with excellent strain reliefs to protect the wires while they flex with your motion. The stress points are moved away from the actual wiring connection and this helps to prolong the life of the wiring harness. The entire assembly only weighs 1 ¼ ounces and it is light weight. The earpiece is stiff wire where the earphone is and it is designed so you can shape it around your ear and use the wire and the support to stabilize the earphones. It is a little different but after wearing them I liked it as there is not some other piece of plastic or rubber hardware that I am always losing.

The earphones themselves are made out of aluminum and they feature a dual driver system that creates sound in an acoustic chamber that just has perfect bass and treble and the sound output is concert quality. The sounds are clear and you can really hear the quality. The kit comes with a first class carrying bag that is a zip up hard nylon shell case the hold specialty connectors, ear buds and the earphones themselves. The case is nice to use in your travel bag, backpack, briefcase on in your pocket.

Usually when I look for in-ear headphones I try to stay away from oddly shaped "objects" that will affect the fitment and create discomfort. I'm more used to a traditional cylindrical shape design with a wire down config or a fancier bean shape design with a wire up behind the ear fitment. When I was offered an opportunity to review Brainwavz dual dynamic driver R3 headphones and looked through some of the pictures, I was intrigued by their shape because I wasn't sure if it could fit my ears. Shaped like something you put on a X-mas tree, these actually contain two drivers in a very unique configuration facing each other inside of an acoustic chamber resembling a shape of a scaled down soda bottle. Let's see what I found.

Very consistent with my previous review of Brainwavz S5, I can confirm this company takes a lot of pride in their products and in showcasing of their design details. They were definitely very proud of the unique shape of these headphones and decided to have a clear display from both sides of the box to show the actual earpieces without a need for pictures. You even get a detailed design description with a diagram of how drivers are placed inside of the chamber, a comprehensive list of accessories, and all the specifications. Among included accessories you get two sets of S/M/L single flange silicon eartips, a pair of bi-flange eartips, a pair of triple-flange eartips, a pair of genuine Comply Foam eartips, 1/4" adapter, and their premium headphone case. I noticed that airplane adapter is no longer included and in my opinion not really necessary.

When it comes to R3 headphones itself, they will definitely going to stand out from the crowd, though you will have to be a judge if it's going to be in a positive or a negative way.
