First of all, I don't claim to be an audiophile, but I've owned couple of $150+ over-the-ear headphones. I've moved away from earphones a long time ago because they were uncomfortable and sounded tinny, hollow, and muddled. But I needed something compact and has really good sound isolation so I started searching online and consistently saw these M1s popup for the best bang-for-buck headphones. So I thought I'd give it a try.

I've had these for about 2 weeks now and....damn, they're pretty good. The key is finding the right silicone/foam tips that makes the perfect seal and you'll be in your own personal space, filtered from the outside world. Sound isolation is wonderful with the double flanged tips but I use the mediums which, to me, gives the best sound. The soundstage is very wide, maybe more so than my open back headphones just not nearly as deep. I really don't feel cramped or tight at all.

If you're and audiophile, and really like detail and crispness you need to shell out more than $100 to be worth an upgrade from these. If your ipod cost $200 and use the stock buds or those nasty $10~$20 headphones, seriously, do yourself a favor and try these out. These headphones for $40 bucks is just ridiculous, it's more than a steal. It's robbery.

I've tried other iems including a couple above $150. Are the M1s better than those? um, no, but every time I try listening to these for comparison, I am just blown away by the fact that they cost so little. The expensive ones aren't 5x better, in fact maybe only 10% better. These are just simply amazing, get them, now.

The build quality is very good, cabling is really nice-no tangles or snags with a clip included. Selection of tips (small, medium, large and double-flanged) is thorough and I easily found a pair that was comfortable for my ears. The sound quality is a big step up from the throw-away earbuds most manufacturers include now. Select the M2s if you're a fan of heavy bass, but the M1s suit me fine in this regard. There is plenty of low-end and it does not overpower the mids and highs which are rendered with good detail. The ports are screened to keep them clear and that is one place that some providers skip on, not so here the M1s are easy to keep clean and clear. The 45-degree angle on the stereo plug is a thoughtful addition to a quality build, it has a solid strain relief and looks durable with gold-plated connectors. The included case is very nice, it is of the disc variety but is not plastic, looks very presentable and has a pocket for the tips and room for other adapters if you need them (see my cons below).

PROS:
excellent build quality
good selection of tips
smooth, tangle-free cabling with pull-away clip
sound quality better than the price-point would indicate
nice included case

CONS:
connector does not fit early iPhone style recessed connectors (it has a small step-back which looks like it would help but doesn't)

I can remember when earphones were not considered to be serious listening devices. They weren't very comfortable, and the sound was weak and tinny, with very little bass. But nowadays, with newer audio technology and the tiny but powerful neodymium magnets, earphones are light-years ahead of where they were only a few years ago. The Brainwavz M1 earphones are a prime example of that. To my ears, the audio quality of the M1 earphones is first rate, with some of the better bass sounds that I've heard from a pair of earphones. The earphones fit comfortably and were effective in keeping out all but the loudest ambient sounds. The ear tips that came on the set were comfortable enough for my ears, but there were seven other sets of varying sizes, shapes, and firmness, so most users should be able to find a good fit. Hard-wired earphones like these don't give the freedom of movement that Bluetooth earphones have, but the tradeoff is that there's no internal battery to keep charged, and you don't have to worry about drop-outs when you're moving around.

I used the M1 earphones with a playlist of songs that gave them a good workout. I also used a couple of utility MP3s (Channel Balance Test and Stepped Stereo Pan Test) to check the stereo channel balance and separation, and the earphones passed easily. I don't claim to be an expert audiophile, but to my ear, the sound was at least as good as any sub-$50 earphones that I've used, including Bluetooth earphones.

I'm also impressed with the accessories that came with the earphones. The seven sets of different earbuds (plus the set that's already on the earphones) are a very nice touch, plus a clip for hooking the audio cable to your shirt.

I want to start by saying that I have previously received a free BRAINWAVZ headphones and not only do they sound amazing but also holds up pretty well. I've had a set for few months that I use on regular basis approximately 6-10 hours a week and they are still in the same condition as when I got them.

What I really like about the BRAINWAVZ earphones is the sturdy box that comes with them and you can keep it in and make sure they are safe because the box is hard and sturdy. The Brainwavz M1 EarPods have a great balanced sound, comfortable foam tips and an oxygen free cable. I have become a great fan of BRAINWAVZ headphones because the are made with care and quality in mind.
