Improvement over Baby Einstein - the best, for now.,
This review is from: Brainy Baby Vol 1 (VHS Tape)
This is clearly a copy of the infant stimulation videos concept pioneered by the Baby Einstein Company (even some of the toys featured are the same!). While I have been quite loyal to the Baby Einstein's (BE) products - and my children had responded to them the best over all of their competitors, Brainy Baby - Right Brain is clearly a second generation production, improving over the first generation. The video includes a classical music score, a professional narrator that pronounces words associated with the images shown (lacking in BE). There are a lot of clips of ethnically diverse (also lacking in BE, especially earlier productions) infants & toddlers, which is very interesting for children. BE's products include jarring sound effects which are designed to bring the child's attention back to the video - I have found that the lack of these noises in Brainy Baby does not cause their attention to wander. Computer-generated animation has generally been an attention-loser for my children, and Brainy Baby has a few such clips - but not enough to diminish how engaging the video is, and, actually they are rather nicely done. There is also a lot of footage of hands painting / drawing and the like - as an introduction to colors, I would guess. These are a little boring, because of their repetitiveness. But, still, overall, Brainy Baby has topped my list of the best of this class of videos out there. There seem to be new releases coming out constantly, in the market for infant / toddler stimulation & development. So for reference purposes, my children and I have viewed (and reviewed) products from: the Baby Einstein Company, 'So Smart,' Babyscapes (now called Baby's Smart Start), Dr.Robert Tizer (Your Baby Can Read), Bee Smart Baby (vocabulary builder), Baby Genius (Mozart & Friends), and Small-fry Productions (makers of Brainy Baby). Brainy Baby is definitely an incremental improvement over the best BE's work - Baby Van Gogh. We have also viewed Small-fry Productions' Baby's First Impressions (shapes), and we were less engaged in and impressed with this video. Small-fry Productions also makes Talking Hands and Bilingual Baby, which we plan to try given the superb production quality and content of Brainy Baby. Bottom line: if you are looking for one or two videos for a child between about 4 and 14 months, I would go with Brainy Baby - hands down.

One-Half of a Great pair of Videos!,

I received the 2-pack Brainy Baby (Left & Right brain)as a gift -and I can't believe how much my 14 month-old enjoys them! He starts laughing and "talking" as soon as the opening music starts, and fusses if I stop the tape while he's watching! The "Right Brain" tape is his favorite of the 2 (maybe he'll be an artist or musician ?!)It shows lots of colorful, imaginative images (like, "What do you see in the clouds?")and that sort of thing. These tapes never seem to repeat an image, or use the same 4-5 kids over and over, (unlike other videos, such as Baby Einstein, that we've seen.) My baby gets to see a great variety of culturally diverse babies and toddlers. I guess the producers do their homwork before they make these things - all I know is that watching these tapes stimulates my son and makes him happy, and that makes me one happy Mom. I give these to all my friends as Shower and Birthday gifts!

The Best of the Baby Videos,

Both Brainy Baby videos captivated my triplet boys. They often sat mesmerized. Seasoned video watchers, they and I preferred it to most others. They did not tire of Brainy Baby as quickly as some, watching it from about 8 to 21 months. It is similar to the Baby Einstein videos but is more educational due to the narration. The narrator in essence takes the place of mom or dad, (so I could be fixing their dinner and still feel they were getting a lot out of what they were watching-- I didn't have to be there).

A Great Video!,

This video is more interesting to my 10 month old than either Baby Genius or Baby Einstein (and she liked those two). We watch it together at least twice a week. She is fascinated by the colors and the motion on the screen. I know this because she responds audibly to what she sees on the screen. This video is quite interactive (especially the peek-a-boo sequence). As a psychologist, I applaud the makers of this series for producing a product that captivates young minds. They also don't make all those annoying claims that watching this video is "guaranteed" to make your child smarter. I'm so annoyed by the unsubstantiated claims made by other producers. They make it sound as though you'll improve your baby's IQ "by 10 points EVERY TIME YOU WATCH"!!! None of that here. Just the simple claim that your baby's creativity will be engaged! Guess what? It has been.

Keeping my 18 month old in his high chair while watching this video is almost impossible. All he wants to do is touch the T.V. and play with the toys and kids in the video!! This video, unlike some of the other video's in our library, has captured his attention since 4 months old. He was laughing and enjoying himself so much that we used our camcorder to record him. From the very beginning frame showing the title Brainy Baby and the little girl in red, he goes wild. We feel this video is both educational and fun. In fact, I have watched it with him these past 14 months and it still feels like the first time. Definitely a must buy for parents. Your kids will thank you with laughs and smiles.

Mesmerizing for babies!,

This review is from: Brainy Baby Vol 1 (VHS Tape)
My 10 month old son is enraptured by this video and it's companion, Brainy Baby - Right Brain. We put them on while he is eating and his eyes never leave the screen (he doesn't like being confined to his highchair). He reacts to the sounds and sights by clapping and smiling. I have never seen a video that captures such a young child's attention. If he is fussy, these videos immediately calm him down - the classical music and soothing tones of the narrator really affect him. Even my 3 year old daughter enjoys these videos! I don't know if they affect future cognitive development or not, but they are a lifesaver for fussy babies!

My 13-month olds son absolutely loves this video. It is the only video we own that he will sit and watch from start to finish. He points, squeals and talks to the screen, and I feel good because I feel it is very educational and stimulating. The colors, music, motions, and adorable children's faces entertain me as well. An excellent choice - the best purchase I've ever made for my child!

Nice Educational/Entertainment Balance,

This review is from: Brainy Baby Vol 1 (VHS Tape)
This video does a very nice job of teaching right brain concepts such as shape recognition (find the bear in the clouds or in ink blots), see patterns, learn rhymes, and objects that stack or nest together. My 13 month old son likes to watch it for the music and many scenes with babies. It isn't as professional as the Baby Einstein videos, but is more educational. I've seen it many times, and it hasn't gotten annoying.

Awesome - a HUGE improvement over Baby Einstein,

My 1 yr. old is absolutely mezmerized by these Brainy Baby videos - he just grins and laughs at the screen, and reaches out to touch many of the cool toys and other objects he sees. We get a real kick out of watching him! I recommend it to anyone with a toddler. After viewing the nauseating way Baby Einstein Co. uses the producer's 3 blond children over and over, and their monotonous video, I vowed I would not get those types of tapes for my child -but these are a BIG improvment, and I highly recommend them.

I think this product is far superior to the Baby Einstein tape. It is more interesting, more upbeat, focused and yet fun. It actively engages my daughter, and it is clear and easy to understand. It is something to watch over and over. There is a whole series available, with languages including sign language. My daughter has learned ASL from the tape at the age of two, and is learning French and Spanish. Excellent products. I think this company will revolutionize the preschool educational video industry.
