This is life changing information for the chronically ill.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr. Braly's Food Allergy and Nutrition Revolution (Paperback)
As a medical student, I must read many books on disease states and the therapies for them. The initial event that creates an environment for many disease states is commonly a breakdown of the body's natural ability to maintain health (i.e. immune system deficiencies). Dr. Braly's book offers excellent information that explains how your body should work, why it doesn't, and what you can do to make it work properly just by modifying your diet. I have worked with a physician who has been in practice for thirty years that became interested in Dr. Braly's book after his wife's medical problems had failed to resolve by traditional and expensive medicals treatments. After diet modification, there was drastic improvement in her health and soonafter, her quality of life. This prompted the physician to treat his own patients with Dr. Braly's diet modification plan. Today, the vast majority of his patients are those being successfully treated for food allergies and have spent thousands on traditional medical therapies with previous doctors that have had less than beneficial results. I must highly recommend this book to anyone suffering from fibromyalgia, JRA, chronic headaches, intestinal problems, or other illnesses that have not responded to traditional medicine.

Correct the vague symptoms that your doctor hasn't helped,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr. Braly's Food Allergy and Nutrition Revolution (Paperback)
With the huge number of additives, preservatives, herbicides, pesticides and other cides present in our foods, it's no wonder we are getting fatter and sicker and not losing weight on yo yo diets. Dr. B's book helped me lose weight and quit asthma medicines and my doctor couldn't/did't help. If you have vague symptoms that don't get better, you might consider food intolerances & read this book.

A must-have home reference for any family or individual!,

This review is from: Dr. Braly's Food Allergy and Nutrition Revolution (Paperback)
I found Dr. Braly's Food Allergy & Nutrition Revolution to be both insightful and a benefit to our household. As parents of four (#5 is due in 3 weeks), my wife and I regularly refer to Dr. Braly's book for its in-depth information, research, treatment and protocols for a multitude of health conditions. A few years after reading Dr. Braly's book, I finally met him at a health conference and was fascinated by the wealth of information and experience he has. Recently Dr. Braly informed me he has two new health guides coming out through Keats Publishing and I will definitely be purchasing both of them. Please feel free to contact me regarding my opinion on Dr. Braly, his book or even on how to contact him.

I've been referring to this book for 10 years,
By Rob R (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dr. Braly's Food Allergy and Nutrition Revolution (Paperback)
I bought this book about 10 years ago when the hospital wouldn't take my blood donation for my grandfather. They said I was too low in iron. I had been EXTREMELY tired drinking mounds of coffee to stay alert at work. This book solved my problem. My wife also has severe exercised induced anaphylactic shock - 4 doctors and allergists couldn't help and she was told to never exercise again. This book solved that problem and she still runs marathons. Between the index and the vitamin and mineral charts, I refer to this book every time I have a health question. My book is now torn in two with underlined and worn pages. I'll never give it up. A MUST HAVE for anyone interested in health and nutrition, and virtually any health problem.

Good allergy information but dated overall,
This review is from: Dr. Braly's Food Allergy and Nutrition Revolution (Paperback)
The book was written in 1985 and in some parts of this book, that really shows.
If I were reviewing this book closer to when it was written I'd probably give it five stars, but any review of this book in 2011 needs to put the book in the context of what is known today and other books available today. The information on allergy testing methods, symptoms caused by allergies and common allergenic foods and so on in this book is very solid and quite detailed. But this is much the same advice given in many other books, and many of those books don't have some of the outdated additional information that this book contains and so they are probably far better choices in 2011. (For example, this book says a total cholesterol level over 180 is unhealthy which is far too low as Taubes and others have explained that cholesterol levels of 200 - 240 are healthy and that low cholesterol levels can cause huge problems; this book again and again pushed the proven to be completely wrong saturated fat/cholesterol = heart disease hypothesis, and recommends we eat much less fat and more grains to be healthy; the dangerously low fat Pritikin diet is recommended as healthy; It is claimed that red meat and dairy products are the villains of the American diet; A diet made up of 60 - 70% of calories is recommended for everyone; A maximum daily intake of salt of 500 - 1000 mg is recommended which is dangerously low and not even close to the minimum recommended by unrefined sea salt experts today of 2300 mg or more; it is recommended that the last meal of the day have no meat in and be made up of all carbs; trans fats and saturated fats are put in the same avoid category with no distinction made between them - eggs are as bad for you as the dangerous and unnatural trans fats supposedly; soy infant formula which is linked with many serious problems is recommended for children with no warnings given at all.) This book also doesn't address treating a leaky gut, which is the main cause of many food allergies. The introduction to the book is also outdated. The book does have some good information in on basic supplementation and the use of 90% bowel tolerance vitamin C to help deal with food allergies. For dealing with food allergies and the leaky gut that is the cause of many food allergies I would instead highly recommend No More Heartburn: Stop the Pain in 30 Days--Naturally! : The Safe, Effective Way to Prevent and Heal Chronic Gastrointestinal Disorders by Dr Sherry Rogers. This was a very good book in its day but outdated today and not a good choice unless you want to borrow a copy from your local library just for the allergy information in it. The book was written in 1985. Some of the information is inaccurate as far as the allergy testing methods. I feel Food Allergies for Dummies is a more accurate reference and it is up to date. My allergist said that Food Allergies for Dummies was a very good reference for people dealing with this issue.
