Awesome for its time,

I really enjoyed this film. I saw that it was originally done in the 80s, and that gave me pause at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. While the film may seem tame by today's standards, it really set a new standard for vampire movies at the time - particularly in the erotic aspects of vampirism.
This film really was the first to explore the art of vampire seduction, which is probably my favorite aspect of the movie. It set a new standard for vampire movies in that regard - a standard which has been pushed to the extreme by now. Also, it's a love story, which I really liked. It's not some grandiose tale of a vampire who wants to take over the world and make everybody vampires or anything - it's a story of an immortal who wants what I imagine any immortal would want - a love to share eternity with. And naturally there are those who oppose him, and a great story unfolds... complete with blood, violence, and special effects. What more can you ask for?

I have the movie on vhs and I am a vampire aficionado, I think they chose an interesting young actor play Vlad Tepes, special effects like the monster makeup, was interesting. Basically I myself love the film. It has romance, action, horror, what more could a vamp movie ask for?. The ending was also very uncharacteristic of Dracula, because he loved the girl so much he didn't want to condemn her to eternal darkness, whereas in other films Dracula has been more selfish or monstrous. (And from a female perspective I think Brandon portrayed a Dracula that was more human than you can imagine. (And he was quite charming and handsome too)

A Favorite Vampire Love Story,

This review is from: Bram Stoker's Dracula: The Love Story To Die For (DVD)
Saw this movie years ago and fell in love with it then and it still is one of my favorite Vampire movies to this day. Let me start off by telling you why you may not like it though ( cause when it comes to Vamps, I dig almost all movies and books ).
First off: 1) VERY 80's hair, make-up and clothes 2) The "Hero" vamp is not a tall, strapping He-man Now for the good stuff: Kate ( Sydney Walsh ) is a real estate agent who goes to a party with her former boyfriend-Martin ( Scott Jacoby ) aboard someone's yacht. While there, she is drawn to a man ( Vlad ) who keeps staring at her from across the room/ship. She wanders off while Martin mingles, and Vlad ( Brendan Hughes )finds her. Some sizzling kisses later, he asks her to leave with him and she agrees. Martin meanwhile, has witnessed her smoochfest and is hurt. He still has feelings for Kate, which she does not reciprocate. She gets her coat and waits for Vlad, but he ends up being detained and doesn't make it. She feels extremely foolish and thinks she will never see him again. The next day at the real estate office she works at, Kate is told by her boss, that a potential client wants to see a certain house tonight and she is to show it to him. The client ends up being Vlad. He likes the house and makes and offer and then mentions he needs someone to do errands and stuff for him during the day. Kate's room mate and friend has just lost her job, so Kate recommends her for the job. Vlad agrees, no questions asked. Kate's room mate is Cecilia ( Amanda Wyss ), a happy-go-lucky girl that is in love with her boyfriend who is studying to become a doctor. For Cecilia, everything revolves around her boyfriend, but that eventually changes when she ends up working for Vlad. Strange murders begin to occur ( starting back during the yacht party ) and it is revealed that there is someone in Vlad's past that holds a deep grudge against him. That person is Tom, ( Steve Bond ) who harbors a deep resentment against Vlad for taking his woman many years ago. He sees the attraction between Vlad and Kate, and wants to cause Vlad as much pain as he feels Vlad caused him those many years ago. Lots of blood and a hot love scene later ( Kate and Vlad...* Yowsa!*) , Tom and Vlad hash out their differences and Vlad makes a final stand. I agree that Bredan Hughes isn't your typical alpha-male muscle bound, tall/dark/and handsome dude, but the way he looks at Kate....*sigh*. He loves her and is willing to die for her. The special effects are pure 80's ( no CGI ), but the love/horror story is what makes the movie. I've watched it SO many times, but I still don't get tired of it.

Rent it DON'T buy it !,
This review is from: Bram Stoker's Dracula: The Love Story To Die For (DVD)
After reading the first two reviews I was willing to give this movie a try. I was very disappointed. This movie has all the awful things of a bad 80's movie, right down to the mullets. The dialogue, special effects (vampire make-up), and plot are very bad. The actor that portrays Vlad is smaller in statue than the girl playing his love interest. I could maybe over look the imagery of the movie if the story was well written, but it is not. Please rent the movie first to see if you like it.

I saw this movie when it originally came out and immediately fell in love with it. I will admit, however, that it is not to everyone's tastes. It is the typical 80's B-movie: cheesy effects, dialogue, etc; but I'm a die-hard-all-things-vampire-lover!!! I would definitely recommend this movie to fellow vamp lovers, but to just the occasional vampy person, definitely rent it before buying. Most places have only the VHS version for rent and the name for the VHS version is just "To Die For." Definitely give it a chance and form your own opinion. Oh yeah, there is a part 2 to this movie it's called... To Die For 2: Son of Darkness, but part one is the better of the two.

Yes, it's small-budget-cheesy-late-80's movie, but I think it's WAY underappreciated in the vampire movie world! If you are late to the vamp party, catch up with this steamy, sexy blast from the past!

This was a great movie when I first saw it as "To Die For"...It's great to see some oldies coming back. I was a bit thrown off by the title but then the plot clicked in my head. I highly recommend this move as well as its sequel "Son of Darkness: To Die For 2" IF you can find it. Brendan Hughes was great in this movie. Aside from the classics of the genre this movie and Dracula Rising are my two favorites.
PS this is my first "review".
