5.0 out of 5 stars Good Country, December 2, 2002

There is nothing quite like this duo anywhere in music. Great harmonies, good country picking, and great songs. This album definitely set the tone for their career, and there was nowhere to go but up from here. If you like the new generation of Country music, then you should have this album in your collection. These boys mix upbeat shuffles with ballads covering a large range of music on just one album. There is nothing these two can't play.

The best song on the album is the closing ballad "Still In Love with You". They lyrics are shear poetry. Another great ballad is "Neon Moon". Again, they hit the nail on the head with "Lost and Found". For as good as their ballads are, their upbeat stuff is incredible as well. "Boot Scootin' Boogie" pretty much put them on the roadmap of Country music, but songs like "Cool Drink of Water" with its upbeat humor just show this band's versatility.

Country music has a bright future with bands like Brooks and Dunn making music of this caliber. Music like this is becoming more mainstream and popular. Garth Brooks might have started that movement, but artists like B&D, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are carrying that momentum with ease.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific debut...no filler at all, December 13, 2000
This review is from: Brand New Man (Audio CD)
I defy anyone to listen to 'Boot Scootin' Boogie' and not want to get up and dance. It just grabs a hold and pulls you to your feet. Just try to resist!! Most of these songs are up-tempo danceable numbers, but then there's the beautiful ballad 'Neon Moon'. A terrific debut, and just a hint of the great stuff yet to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar Country Music, August 24, 2003
This review is from: Brand New Man (Audio CD)
It's all typical country, with the usual subject matters and the twangy steel guitars, etc. So, what makes this music so special?: Very high quality songwriting and superb singing by Ronnie Dunn. Kix Brooks isn't a bad singer (and the harmonzing with Ronnie sounds great), but he's not in Ronnie's league. Listen to Boot Scootin' Boogie on a high-quality stereo system -- this song is particularly well-produced and the vocals don't have any false echo chambering or reverb (unlike Neon Moon) -- we get to hear Ronnie Dunn's unadulterated sustain on the first "Go to boot scootin' boogie" and it's an act of pure loveliness, along with beautiful phrasing and intonation throughout. Kix Brooks can certainly write/co-write great songs, but with Ronnie available to do the singing, Kix should probably content himself with valuable harmonizing duties. We all know the great songs here: All Of Them! Lots of well-deserved #1 hits. An essential country record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start to the legend!, June 29, 2005
This review is from: Brand New Man (Audio CD)
What a great way to start the career of the most successful duo in music history. There isn't a bad song on the cd. With "Brand New Man", "My Next Broken Heart", "Neon Moon", and "Boot Scootin Boogie" all topping the chart and "Lost and Found" landing at 6 on Billboard, the record was a huge success. "Cool Drink of Water", "Cheatin on the Blues", and "I'm No Good", are all fun upbeat country songs. "I've Got a Lot to Learn" and "Still in Love With You" show off Dunn's remarkable knack for singing a powerful ballad. An important start to your country collection.
