4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth solo effort
How JT Taylor remains such a unappreciated solo artist escapes me. Very good mid tempo tunes. Kool & the Gang fans should really give this a listen.

this album is off da hook! once more JT shows his unlimited talents in writing and interpreting. my favs are "how" and "brand new". this man should be dedicated and valued much more by the public, but he's got a solid hard-core-fangroup. best wishes MOH!

5.0 out of 5 stars His best album so far, April 24, 2005

This review is from: Brand New Me (Audio CD)
This is his best solo album so far and it offers many vartieties. Songs like Rubberneckin and Church girl are very catchy and would have been good hits, if they had come out via a bigger label. The voice is strong and smooth, the production steady and guests like Meli'sa Morgan make it even more enjoyable

4.0 out of 5 stars A Brand New Me (HIS Best SOLO PROJECT), June 12, 2000
This review is from: Brand New Me (Audio CD)
Overall this is a good CD to listen to. JT Taylor sound real good , what I mean is that, JT was not afraid to take a risk on the CD. A lot of music that is played on the radio sound the same. I probably would have given it Five Stars, if was not for the song titles and lyrics.

4.0 out of 5 stars JT is still da man!, June 4, 2010

I have been following JT's career since the kool & the Gang haydays. The brotha has mad talents. While I liked him better with Kool & the Gang, he still has it as a solo artist. I have all four of his solo albums. He's still writing strong songs with beautiful lyrics and haunting melodies (though nothing like Cherish). On the Brand New Me album, the title track is great. Also, Church girl, Marry me, All is said and done are all great songs that could have easily been hits. I agree that JT is greatly underrated and underappreciated as a solo artist. Keep ya head up my brotha!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Such An Underated Lead Singer, May 24, 2009
This review is from: Brand New Me (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of James J.T. Taylor since he started with Kool and the Gang in 1979. Not only is he a great singer, but his stage persona gave Kool and the Gang a presence that helped them reach a broader audience. I went to see J.T. and the band over 20 times in their heyday and was really saddened the year he left to pursue a solo career. I have all 4 of his solo albums, and on A Brand New Me, J.T. sounds as good and modern as ever. It's a shame J.T. and Kool and the Gang can't get back together because as one they were complete. I recently read an article where Kool and the Gang had fired J.T. a few years after he rejoined the group (When he returned in 1996 for the State of Affairs album). They stated he was an "Average artist." Let me tell you something. Kool and the Gang have to be the most foolish group to issue such a reason when this spectacular talent helped them sell over 50 million albums worldwide. J.T.,can't wait to hear your next L.P. and your voice will always remind me of all those great hits you anchored. I will always be a fan.A Brand New Me

3.0 out of 5 stars Still love the voice, April 12, 2009

I bought this CD last year (yeah I know it's a little late) and dusted it off recently and listened to it again. JT Taylor is hands down my favorite male artist. However this CD does not show his array of talent in my opinion; even though I could listen to "Marry Me" and "All Said and Done" over and over again. I hope that he releases more solo (or even K&TG) CD's that really showcase his beautiful smooth voice. Love you JT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Price of Admission..., June 15, 2000
This review is from: Brand New Me (Audio CD)
JT Taylor comes at the mic from all directions on this album! The tune "Do You know" is a Lenny Kravitz-esque dance jam that will make your head bob. JT melts the mic on a number of eclectic ballads and mid-tempos all well complimented by a spicy co-production effort from Marcus Quantanilla. A very vocally & musically dynamic record to round out any JT Taylor/Kool & The Gang collection...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not well Done!, June 11, 2000

'' A Brand New Me'' is a story telling JT's story the last few years. ''Mr Young'' is a skit that is not well done. Tracks #3 to 6 are not well written/performed. ''Marry Me'' is well written and probably the best song on this cd. The only other decent songs are ''How'' (the 1st single released on this cd), and ''Sex on the beach''. JT can do better, and write better. I would like to see JT go back w/ Kool and the gang, or Write songs like the ones that made him famous.
