Editorial Reviews

From the Author

For years, I consumed every book by Nora Roberts I could find (still do).  When I ran out of Roberts' titles, I devoured Jennifer Crusie.  Then came Patricia McLinn, and more recently Sylvia Day and Marie Force.  These women are my heroes.  Their characters jump from the pages and drag me into their imaginary worlds where love conquers all.  Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic.

Several years back, I discovered that writing about intriguing characters was as much a passion for me as reading about them.  In 2012, the fates smiled on me, and I was able to realize the joys of seeing my books published.  The first time I saw my name on a best-selling list next to Nora Roberts, I cried.  I didn't matter that I was only there for a short time.  I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my stories with the world and for the fans who seem to enjoy reading them.  Thank you for giving a new author a chance.

Based on purely circumstantial evidence, Nicole Camden has been accused of transferring $10 million from her employer's account into an offshore account. Xander Secrist is a, well, I'm not exactly sure what he is, but he's a financial analyst by day and does some kind of undisclosed retribution work with four other guys in his off hours. He befriends Nicole in order to get her to confess to the crime he is sure she has committed. Her father swindled HIS father out of millions, so the daughter must be cut out of the same cloth, right?

Although this story was okay, and reasonably entertaining, the details were really lacking. First of all, Xander is a computer expert and offers to help Nicole find the real embezzler by using those skills and his "connections" - yet, once they've met, he never really DOES anything except make a few phone calls to his friend the cop. I just kept wondering why she wasn't on him about checking the money flow. No one did. They kept "waiting to hear."

Secondly, I finished the book with absolutely no understanding at all as to who these five guys were, how they got together, and what they were trying to accomplish. I kept thinking I had unknowingly picked up the second book in the series, but assumed it would all be explained at some point. It wasn't.

Xander hates the very idea of Nicole and what she has supposedly done; Nicole is all sweetness and light and falls for him quickly. Which I don't get because he's really not all that loveable of a character. He's not awful; he's just not very interesting.

Overall, I'd say it's an "okay" book that you might enjoy if you weren't overly worried about the details.

Adult language and sexual content.

This was a pretty decent book overall but my issue was the vehemence with which Xander and his friends were convinced that Nicole was guilty, they never even gave her a smallest benefit of doubt. Their conclusions were solely based on circumstantial evidence and the fact that her father was a swindler. My other issue was that Nicole didn't even have a chance to get mad at Xander for beginning their relationship under false pretenses. The book moved faster than the speed of light after the "big confrontation" and then was wrapped up in a very neat bow. I like my heroine to have a little spark to her but Nicole was all they portrayed her to be a sweet, lovely girl who apparently was content to take everything at face value and fall meekly in line. She came across rather weak and I'd have preferred her to have a lot more spunk.

Loved the fast paced storyline. Loved both Nicole and Xander and how they connected. Pretty much read the entire book in one setting. However...leading up to what could have been a great climax, I felt like the book just ended too suddenly without the finishing details. The story was incomplete. The story began with Nicole being accused of stealing 10 million dollars. Even though she was vindicated in the end, there were no details of exactly who and how that came to be or what happened to the perpetrators. There were only partial details. How was the plan hatched up and carried off? What parts did all the other characters play in to the scheme? What did the police know and how did they come to the conclusion that they did? Why did they not act upon what they knew? Where were the details? What could have been an excellent book ended up being very disappointing and left me hanging. I want to know more!

The hero of the story, and his vigilante pals, are everything that's wrong with society today. They tried and convicted the heroine without any actual facts or evidence, just like the media. If they're so great and honorable, wouldn't they dig for truth before zeroing in on circumstantial? And really? Using sins of the father? Xander knows better than anyone, and yet, from the get go he's convicted Nicole...without any solid evidence whatsoever. One little supposed clue, and he turns on her. Every. Single. Time. I can't stand any of these guys, except maybe for Christian. He was a little more open minded towards Nicole. Ms. Stark ought to have found a way to make seemingly insurmountable evidence point to Nicole, just to support the guys dogged pursuit of her guilt. Or, keep the evidence as is, and have Xander struggle with the rest of the guys over her innocence. There are far too many suspension of disbelief issues to make this plot solid.

Thanks for bearing with me on that opening paragraph, just had to get that out of my system. So, this is supposed to be a little bit suspense, right? Well, I figured out who was in on it in the first chapter. If Xander is such a smart and honorable guy, why is he so easily led to convicting Nicole? Every. Single. Time. It's ludicrous with so very little to support his assumptions. The evidence isn't strong enough in this story for all these guys to go after Nicole. Xander's back story and "wounded psyche" isn't strong enough to support why he convicts Nicole. Every. Single. Time.

I did enjoy some of the non-"suspense" moments in the story, with the H and h getting to know each other. I almost always enjoy those parts in these books.

I had such high hopes for the premise, and I'm so disappointed.
