Maria Ross's book, Branding Basics, helped me build my own brand for my business and it saved me a lot of money in the process. This book is so well-organized and detailed, it does a really great job explaining the basics of what a brand is, how a brand strategy and marketing plan work together, and all of the pieces and parts that are important components of building a solid long-term brand. The second edition also includes some great advice about blogging and social media and how it is - or isn't - useful for brands and marketing, depending on your goals and your customers. Maria also does an excellent job identifying some of the more subtle ways we build our brands offline, like through networking. Overall, I highly recommend Branding Basics for Small Business because it is a smart, comprehensive guide for anyone who wants to understand how creating a solid brand can help you grow your business.
