Product Description

On the Waterfront
Marlon Brando gives one of the screen's most electrifying performances as Best Actor in this 1954 Academy Award winner for Best Film. Ex-fighter Terry Malloy (Brando) could have been a contender but now toils for boss Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb) on the gang-ridden waterfront. Terry is guilt-stricken, however, when he lures a rebellious worker to his death. But it takes the love of Edie Doyle (Eva Marie Saint), the dead man's sister, to show Terry how low he has fallen. When his crooked brother Charley the Gent (Rod Steiger) is brutally murdered for refusing to kill him, Terry battles to crush Friendly's underworld empire. Directed by Elia Kazan (A Streetcar Named Desire) and written by Budd Schulberg (What Makes Sammy Run?), this unforgettable drama about Terry's redemption is among the most acclaimed of all films.

The Wild One
An angry young Marlon Brando scorches the screen as The Wild One in this powerful '50s cult classic. Brando plays Johnny, the leader of a vicious biker gang which invades a small, sleepy California town. What's Johnny rebelling against? What have you got? - he sneers. The leather-jacketed young biker seems hell-bent for destruction until he falls for Kathie (Mary Murphy), a good girl whose father (Robert Keith) happens to be a cop. Unfortunately for Johnny, his one shot at redemption is threatened by a psychotic rival, Chino (Lee Marvin), plus the hostility and prejudice of the townspeople. All their smoldering passions explode in an electrifying climax!

The Freshman
Marlon Brando triumphs in his first starring role in ten years as Carmine Sabatini, a powerful New York importer. Matthew Broderick co-stars as Clark Kellogg, a naive film student who accepts a job working for Sabatini. As if trapped in a comic nightmare, Clark finds himself drawn deeper and deeper into an ingenious scam involving an endangered Komodo Dragon, Sabatini's daughter, Bert Parks and a group of very hungry eccentrics. But when the FBI asks Clark to snitch on his colorful employer, he discovers a strange loyalty to this fatherly figure. Written and directed by Andrew Bergman, creator of The Inlaws.

4.0 out of 5 stars Varied spectrum of Marlon Brando, November 10, 2007
From classic Brando to studied Brando this collection runs the gamut. In On The Waterfront it is him against the mob. In an unlikely turn of events he comes out of it bloodied but standing and the docks turn their backs on their benefactors. The culture of corruption and silent desperation is broken and every one gets down to work. In the Wild One he plays a roughneck gang leader who sneers his way through a small town and the whole picture. He respects nothing, but still isn't satisfied. After a showdown he moves on but leaves behind something to remember him by. In The Freshman he spoofs his role as a mafia head and toys with the head of a young college student. A gila monster plays a major role in the high jinks as it terrorizes wherever it goes. It all seems real until the end when the truth is revealed and it was all one big joke. Brando plays his role deftly and with an understated sense of humor. For the price the collection is well worth it.
