Puppy Food, March 5, 2004

This is a great little gift from SP to their fans. The CD has everything a fan could want: Great artwork, CD-ROM features (including a video of Spasmolytic), never-released material, and great live performances of classic SP songs (excluding the beginning of Tin Omen, which for some reason sounds like you're in a sewer). The older material that never saw the light of day (Jackhammer, Splasher, Double Cross) are not necessarily strong Puppy songs, but they are all great peeks into the inner workings of the band at their early stages. Since I love this kind of fodder, I was more than pleased with this release. If you're not a big Skinny Puppy fan, this is probably not for you. Instead, check out Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate, or perhaps Rabies. If you like what you hear, then please do continue to collect material from one of the more influential industrial/electro bands of our time.

if you have no idea what Skinny Puppy is......then for the love of Ogre!...be patient. The first few listens are probably going to be odd or somewhat painful. I usually stay away from things that have to grow on me.....but I was drawn into them somehow...probably curiosity. IF! you have some kind of an open mind with music...you will aquire the taste for Skinny Puppy....and all it's wonderful glory!. my favorite tracks include: Grave Wisdom, Tin Omen, TFWO, and Double Cross...all the tracks are awesome, And I would go so far as to say that this collection is a proper introduction to Skinny Puppy.

If you prefer the happy happy pop style of funkervogt, maybe you should go with the previous reveiwers advice (or better still you could do the world of good taste a favour and slit your wrists). This CD is not for those new to skinny puppy, it is for the real fans who are not just interested in a catchy hook and a nice beat. While the music on this CD is not incredible (although the live version of last call is wonderful, especially the end) The multimedia section is very nice (and quite extensive too, about 20 video's, studio and live altogether). If you are new to skinny puppy however, it would probably be a wiser idea to get either Too Dark Park, VIVIsecVI or the newly released singles collect. In conclusion, this album is definately worth it if your computer can handle multimedia, but as a music CD alone, it is an aquired taste.
