Best Compilation yet, October 18, 1999

This review is from: Brasil 2mil (Audio CD)
This CD is so smooth that it puts you straight into a sensual mood. It contains the silky smooth voice of Bebel Gilberteo and up-tempo tracks from the more new groups like Smoke City. I cannot say enough about this CD-- it is very impressive. It is a sign of the future in Brazilian music without forgetting the past. Tracks to look forward to in my opinion are Carmesim and O Dia Em Que Faremos Cantatos. If you like Brazilian music and want to hear whats new, you've gotta buy this one.

A Terrific Sampler, December 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Brasil 2mil (Audio CD)
This is a must have CD. I recommend it to all of my friends. It looks as if the new Bossa Nova sound is in these days, but this CD came out right on the verge of the new explosion - I got it because I recognized many of the names on the CD. If you are interested in the new Thievery Corporation CD, or some of the Ambient scenes, including eighteenth street lounge Jet Society, or "Bass-a-Tronique", you'll love this CD. Since this album came out, many artists have gone on to make their own terrific works: Fernanda Abreu, Suba, Bebel Gilberto, Andrea Marque (went to a different label) and even Zuco 103. Also included on the CD is an extremely hard to find group, Smoke City - if you like this group, get this album because finding their CD alone is near impossible. Their contribution "Numbers" is terrific. Andrea Marquee's "Carmesim" is magical, and the song is not on her debut solo album. There are even more well known artists involved in this CD too.
Get this disc first if you're into the compilations. It's an outstanding introduction and possibly the best compilation/sampler that I've purchased in the new era of Bossa Nova. You won't be sorry!
