Great Sound, not entirely "Acoustic", September 3, 2003
This review is from: Brasil Acoustico (Audio CD)
I took a risk with this one a year or so because I wasn't too sure what to expect in the sound. The only artist I was familiar wih was Renato Braz. But when I put this in, and turned the volume up a little, I heard some songs that seemed so full, and so rich. I immediately thought that this was indeed a special CD in the collection.
The sounds are traditional, borderline folkish and the acoustic tracks are very nostalgic feeling to me. When I hear some of the songs on this song, I think of the nature outside of the cities, and the forests along the coast of the sea. Renato Braz and Ceumar dominate the work on the cd - with Renato's voice being very distinguished and powerful. Ceumar has a sort of festive feel to the music and a light, sometimes even contemporary spin on the tracks.
There are interesting linear notes that give more information about the musicians and Brazilian music in general. I recommend this CD. But you may pass though if you're looking for MPB or Bossa Nova - this is not really either of those.
