This is a [...] product, and [...]. The marketing for the "Secret Date" products, marketed to young girls, suggests to them that they have a "secret" midnight date with a stranger they don't know (the television ad shows the doll sneaking out at night with a man who appears behind a frosted glass door with a question mark over his face - suggesting that not knowing how you will be dating till you open the door/sneaking out to meet a complete stranger - is a good thing). The whole marketing focus suggests to young girls that they should have a secret rendezvous or encounter with a stranger.
It's just a truly horrific product, sending an almost unbelievably bad message to children.

Although I haven't seen the TV ad, I understand it to be rather inappropriate, especially for the age group recommended. The manufacturer suggests 6 and up and Toys-r-us says 6-10. While the general idea of the game, investigative in nature, would be appropriate for such ages, the specifics of the game require it to be for older children. Also, the overall marketing scheme may mislead some children. I don't know if the game itself (outside of descriptions on the box or in reviews) describes sneaking out for a date. If it does, then the game needs fixing. If not, then just descriptions, reviews, and marketing schemes need to be fixed. According to the manufacturer, the choice of "dates" is between 4 specifc boys, not "strangers" as the other customer review mentions. Again, this is an issue of the age group the game should be recommended for. Again, the most basic idea of the game, that of the process of elimation to discover an answer, is good. But much needs to be done to correct rather inappropriate marketing schemes (at the least).

This toy is fun to me - and it would be the parents fault if their kid snuck out, it would be YOUR fault for not teaching them better, NOT a toys fault. Its a plastic object for heavens sake! Its not going to tell your kids to go out with complete strangers! If they do, DONT blame it on a TOY, blame it on YOURSELF for obviously NOT being a good parent! ITS EVEN LOWER THAN DIRT TO BLAME A TOY FOR SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE YOUR FAULT AS A PARENT FOR NOT TEACHING THEM BETTER. WHEN EVERYONE WAS A KID, THEY SNUCK OUT, BUT THEY DIDNT GO ON BLIND DATES! STOP BLAMING TOYS FOR SOMETHING THAT YOU NEED TO BLAME YOURSELF FOR! (This toy doesnt magically speak to me, telling me to go sneak out and go on blind-dates!)

I saw the commercial for the secret date products on TV. MGA Entertainment should be ashamed of themselves. Not only does the commercial show a young girl going on a "secret date", it also shows her dressing very prevocatively including black leather high heel knee boots. The girl in the commercial looked about twelve. Any right minded parent that buys this product, or any Bratz product for that matter, for their preteen girl has lost their mind. I might add that the commericial was run on NICK JR. after a nice episode of DORA- which caught me, a mother of preschoolers, rather off guard. What is the world coming too?
