AS CLOSE AS A BLADE,
By Lone Ranger (PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Braun Series 1 - 190 Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I recently purchased the Braun Free Control #1775 electric shaver and I can honestly say that it shaves as close as my old reliable Gillette Sensor razor. I've tried other Braun models costing up to 5 times the price of the Free Control and none of them shaves as close. I think the secret is that is uses just one large cutting block which is heavier and closer cutting than those 2 headed models. Also, the floating foil head is MUCH THINNER than the more expensive Braun models. It floats up and down on your face, and the foil itself is very flexible so it compresses onto the cutter and you barely have to press the shaver to your face. For $35. this shaver out performs $150. models and is an unbelievable value. Don't waste your money on anything more expensive, they don't get any closer than this!!!

Excellent Shave, especially for those with the "Fred Flintson" effect,

This review is from: Braun Series 1 - 190 Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I found this razor to be the best one I have ever used! Having sufferd from the "Fred Flintson Effect"(i.e. perminate 5'0clock shadow) all of my life, I have always found it hard to get a close shave, and would always end up with razor burn and having to shave twice a day. WIth this razor, and a little effort, I get a really close, smooth shave which last the day! The charge is quick and last a long time. It is easy to clean, so you constintly get a better shave. FOR THE PRICE and all around quality, you can't beat this razor!

This price - quality is outstanding. this is a well made shaver for the money. Works plugged in when the battery is drained. This is a big feature. Lets say the battery runs out in the middle of your shave. now what do you do? go out half shaved? Well the Norelco I bought does not have this feature, so I'll keep the Braun handy.
The Braun will give you a pretty close shave - but like all electrics, your face must get used to it. you need to give it time. After 3 weeks of use my face did get used to the shaver. But I decided I liked the Norelco better than a foil shaver. I think it gets the job done faster with less vibration. But if you like a foil shaver or have no preference, I can highly recommend the Braun.

I'm just an average guy who's been using shaving cream and a razor for over 30 years now. Recently I have been using the Fusion razors. Sure, they provide a close shave, but damn, those refills are expensive.
So, I got this Braun. The price was right. The reviews were right. It does take your skin a couple of weeks to get used to the electric. But it's fast and close. The charge holds up well. You can charge it then go on vacation for a week and it still shaves. The side trimmer works well and cuts through any length of hair. Get this Braun, you won't be sorry.

This is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Until this remarkable shaver, which I was steered to by other reviewers here in Amazon, I have not been able to get a decent shave with any razor, blade or electric. I am not young, and shaving under my chin--where the wrinkles are emphasized--has been a problem for years. But this relatively inexpensive Braun does it incredibly well, better than the $100 Remington I've had to throw away, and better even than the 3-bladed Gillettes--with motors or not--although they were the best before the Braun. I hope many will buy this great instrument so it will never be taken off the market. I want it to be there if ever I need a new razor again.

Braun 1775 Free control. Great Razer!!!!!,
This review is from: Braun Series 1 - 190 Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I have used Norelco triple head razers and Remington foil and triple head razers. This Braun Free Control blows them away. The Norelco irritated my neck and I could never get a close shave. The Remington did the same. The Remington foil shaver did not give a very close shave and I was always replacing the foil and blades every 3 months after getting bit by the blade when a hole would wear in the foil. I have had my Braun for 3 months and I love it. You have to learn that with a foil razer you do not push hard on your face with it. It takes a little longer to shave with But it does not irritate my skin. I have a pretty heavy beard and it has plenty of power to get the job done. Battery charges fast and holds it. Hopefully Braun will keep this one on the market for a long time. It is a great razer!!!!!!!!

This shaver can shave a tough beard,

I read the other reviews before purchase. I have had a tough beard to shave and it is getting tougher with age. The Braun 1775 gives me as close to a razor blade shave as one could get with an electric shaver. The unit is ergonomically hand held. The motor and torque of the blades for a rechargeable unit is equal if not better to many cord driven models. The pop up trimmer is great for me. It trims my hairs on the exterior of my ears with relative ease. If by chance I did not get a chance to shave for a few days, I can go over my beard with the trimmer to trim it down to a shaveable level. Using a preshave lotion may or may not be necessary with this shaver depending on the individual. This is the best shaver I have ever used in comparison to older Norelco triple headers or Remington microscreens.

I bought it because of the Consumer Reports recommendation. I found much to like about it, and it seemed like a very good value. It feels good in the hand and is comfortable to use. The excellent ergonomics are marred only by a perfectly-placed power switch which has a too-light touch so I was constantly turning the thing off in midshave or having to remember to be extra-extra-careful. The pop-up trimmer works very well. The shaver is a bit noisy, but it's the sound of a surprisingly powerful motor and the very satisfying sizzle of whiskers biting the dust. It charges quickly and holds the charge long enough not to be an issue. It shaves reasonably quickly. What it shaves is quite close, HOWEVER, not having an in-line clipper in addition to the foil means that some hairs do not get cut at all, especially if you don't shave every day. So I was left with the absurd situation of having to go after errant hairs with the pop-up trimmer or shave again with another shaver. Ridiculous! Braun claims the foil will last 18 months, but mine got a hole after only a few weeks of careful use. So I gave up on this model, and all foil shavers, and went back to Norelco. If your hair texture happens to go into those holes in the foil freely, you could really like this shaver, but beware.

BUY THIS SHAVER!,
By MikeC (Bedminster NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Braun Series 1 - 190 Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I read so many reviews for shavers...from Norelcos and Remingtons to Brauns. I wanted a razor that you could wash and had none of those bells and whistles that you really don't need like a self cleaning unit....and of course a razor that would shave close and not irritate your skin. Then I read all the Amazon reviews on the 1775 Free Control and decided to give it a try. I gotta tell ya, it is the BEST shaver I've ever had and this is the best part...the cheapest! It was 42.00 at Best Buy. It is compact, washable and shaves really close and you can hardly feel it on your skin...its the smoothest shave. My last razor was a Remington TCT that cost over 100 bucks, the trimmer button broke soon after I bought (so I had to hold it down with my thumb when I didn't want to use it) and I didn't realize how bad the shave was till I bought this Braun 1775. Finally, don't buy a Norelco because the trimmers on them are flimsy .Buy the Braun 1775, you won't regret it.

Pretty nice little razor,
By Pon (LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Braun Series 1 - 190 Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
For the money this is likely a good shaver, and it will shave extremely close. It is rated highly in that respect. But it is a foil shaver and I really like the Norelco style better and will go back to that. But my Norelco will not shave as close as this little shaver will. But it takes a little time and skin stretching to get the closest shave with it.
I can be shaved and gone with my Norelco though it won't be as close. The trimmer is nicer on this one though. It's easy to clean and very portable, nicely thought out. But, if you miss a whisker a time or two this shaver will not cut it no matter how many times and directions you go over it. It will just not cut a very long hair with the shaving part. If you miss anything for a day or two you'll have to use the trimmer to get it back down so the shaver can shave it. This is a good shaver for the money. I guess it's just a personal preference thing, but the Norelco type shavers are more comfortable and faster for me, though they are not as close. But this one is a lot less money also. It's an all around good little close shaver for the money, especially for those who are foil fans. |
