4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent no-nonsense shaver
Finally a shaver from Braun that emphasizes a great job delivering the basics. I've been using this shaver 10 weeks and it delivers a close shave quickly. It uses the Braun Smartfoil and Powercomb to scoop up hairs, but without the vibrating head motion of the Pulsonic or 360/Activator shavers. I've used both the Pulsonic and Activator and find the new Series 5 shaves...

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Cost?
I've been using the shaver for a little over a month and I'm still undecided if it was worth the hefty price or not. It shaves better than my previous shaver, a Norelco Speed-XL, which cost $100 less than the Braun, but it is far from perfect.
I find that I have to shave very slowly for the shaver to cut, and wild loose hairs are a problem. The lack of a stand...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent no-nonsense shaver, February 27, 2009
This review is from: Braun Series 5 560 Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
Finally a shaver from Braun that emphasizes a great job delivering the basics. I've been using this shaver 10 weeks and it delivers a close shave quickly. It uses the Braun Smartfoil and Powercomb to scoop up hairs, but without the vibrating head motion of the Pulsonic or 360/Activator shavers. I've used both the Pulsonic and Activator and find the new Series 5 shaves closer and for my skin, with less irritation. The Gillette 360 blade technology seems sharper and closer-cutting than the Activator series.

This shaver does very well on convenience. It's quieter than the Panasonic models I've used and the cleaning system does away with the multiple cleaning modes and heat drying. It's simple, compact and I'll bet way more reliable over the long term because so much more simple. The shaver has the "quick clean" option where the foil/head partially opens so with the shaver turned on most hairs can be shaken out. And finally, a huge plus -- this shaver can be washed under water so can keep it clean during travel.

All in all, a top notch product provided you judge based on quality of shave and convenience, not number of lights, settings or other bells & whistles. Less is more with the new Series 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good shaver, worth the cost. Nice alternate to the Braun 590 or 570, May 11, 2010

I have been using Braun shavers for 15 years. First the 5567U and for the past 10 years the 6525. When it came time to replace the battery on the 6525 I decided, it was time for a new shaver. I looked at the Braun Series 5 590 and 570 and could not figure out why I would want to have a large, cheap looking tub on my bathroom counter to keep it clean. Nor did I see the wisdom of purchasing cleaner to put into the tub. Nothing online could explain to me why the Series 5 560 did not need the tub or cleaning solution but otherwise seemed to be the same shaver as the 590 and 570 or at least very similar. I am very happy with the new shaver, which I have been using for the past two months. I had no complaints about the old 6525 but this one is lighter weight compared to the 6525, fits very nicely in my hand. It shaves closer and faster than the old model. I no longer have ingrown hairs. Nicks and cuts are extremely rare. Wish I had purchased this sooner. VERY MINOR COMPLAINTS. The electric cord has the charger built into it and will not fit into the nice case that holds the shaver. Dumb design move in my opinion. The old Braun shaver held a charge for 7 days, this one for only 5 days.

3.0 out of 5 stars average, November 25, 2010

On the plus side, this shaver is really easy on the skin, and a breeze to keep clean. On the downside, it misses too many hairs and does not deliver a close shave. It might suit people with a light growth better but, for me, my (much cheaper) Remington shaved closer and quicker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shaver!, August 2, 2010

I purchased the Model 560 to replace an old Flex Integral model that I've had for about ten years. The on/off switch on my old one had become difficult to operate from too many times being bounced around in my luggage on overseas business travel. I have had several Braun shavers over the years and this one is the best yet. It gives the closest shave of any I've owned. It is also quieter than my old shaver. I was considering a Series 3 but decided on the 560 and I'm glad I did. The charger is built into the cord wall plug, which is a bit different and probably helps to lower the weight on the shaver itself. The travel case holds just the shaver and not the cord and I wish it would take both. Also, note that not all Braun shavers even come with a travel case if that is important to you as it was to me. The multiple charge indicator lights on the Model 560 are also a nice feature. I don't think it is necessary to buy any shaver that comes with its own bathtub. It's too easy to shake out the shavings and that doesn't require the purchase of special cleaning cartridges.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shaving is fun again, February 14, 2010

My forty year habit of buying and using rotary razors had me believing that shaving was just a unwanted chore. With the Braun Series 5 560 I am enjoying shaving again. More importantly I am getting good shaves again. The Braun 560 feels good in my hand (and I have small hands) and on my face. I get the best shaves I've had in years. The protective case is solid and well designed. The head is easily removed for cleaning (with a quick rinse.) I though it was a bit pricey, but I'm sure glad I bought it.

I was very disappointed with this product. I have a Braun Series 7 and bought the Series 5 for use at a second home. The Series 5 does not shave as closely as the Series 7 and often requires me to use a regular razor blade if I need a good shave. Go with the 7 - stay away from the 5.

1.0 out of 5 stars 3rd Time Not the Charm, November 4, 2010
This review is from: Braun Series 5 560 Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
This is my 3rd Braun razor. I've loved the first two and when the second one finally got to where it would not hold a charge I started shopping. I found this one and ordered it thinking it would actually be an improvement over my previous one. Was I wrong!!

This one pulls hair out, misses hair and tears my skin up. It has three closeness settings but they dont work. No matter where you set it within a few seconds of use the switch vibrates back to the close setting which eats up skin.

I am suffering thru using it for now but need to replace it as it is mild torture on a daily basis.

Update. I finally got the closeness switch to stay put where I set it but it doest not seem to matter. It eats up my skin like crazy. This is whether I shave every day (not really needed) or wait a day or two in between. I loved my previous Braun razors so this one is a HUGE disappointment. I called Braun today to share my dissatisfaction and asked about replacing the cutter head and foil with the 30B. They said not to do it as it is not the right fit and offered me a free replacement as consolation. I am going to give the free replacement a try but if the design and engineering are the same as on the original I don't expect any difference. I will update this posting once the replacements arrive.

For now, RUN AWAY from Braun. What used to be a GREAT shaver is now little short of torture.

Update!!!!

Per Braun's advertising guarantee (love it or they will take it back) and some other comments on here that calls to Braun with complaints had been met with returns or at least free blades, screens/cutter blocks, I called Braun. What an arrogant company!!

I shared my comments with the customer rep who answered. It was clear that she was reading from a script when she thanked me for my feedback and apologized for any disappointment. It was also clear that she had better things to do. Maybe it was a bad day for her but she was clearly bored with my call and the issue. Maybe it was close to her end of shift? Maybe she was tired of calls about this horrible razor. Either way.... I went on to ask if they would honor the return but I had purchased mine just a few weeks before they started offering the return so no dice. I then asked if there were anything she could do as I cannot use the razor. She said that as a gesture of good will and as a one time exception in the interest of customer service, they would send me a new cutting block/screen set. So I agreed. She took my information and promised to send it out.

A couple of weeks later a package from Braun showed up. It contained a replacement blade/screen set. For a completely different razor. Bigger than what mine needed and with a big chrome edge around it. At first I thought it was an upgrade but it clearly would not fit.

So, strike 4? Run away. This company does NOT care about consumers.
