Maserati of Toothbrushes,
By Lightspeed (Bay Area, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: GILLETTE CO BRAUN DIV
I read several reviews (both at Amazon[.com] and other sites) before purchasing this Oral-B toothbrush. Just about all of them raved about it and (now that I've owned it for about 2 months) I have to agree. I've never had a cavity and dentists always beam over my teeth, so there didn't seem to me to be any reason to switch from a conventional toothbrush to an electric one - How wrong I was! This toothbrush cleans so brilliantly that when I smile I keep expecting people on the street to throw their arms up to cover their eyes, screaming "The light! The light!" The brushhead fits comfortably in my mouth and is just the right size to clean each individual tooth. This model comes with a 2 minute timer, though I never use it. For the most part, I find the timer useless: if you stop the brush because you are drooling or to add more toothpaste, the timer shuts off, and then begins again at 2 minutes when you turn the brush back on. A few customer reviews complained of bleeding gums from initial use of this toothbrush; I've had no such problems at all. If anything, I find that the brush feels great against my gums. A few extra notes: This toothbrush is VERY noisy (Wake-the-Dead noisy). It also definitely spins faster just off the charger than after a day or so of use. This means that for maximum cleaning, it needs to be kept on the charger between uses. The replacement heads are insanely expensive (about $... for 3), but this toothbrush cleans so well that cost is an accepted part of the package. Finally, after using it, you will need to clean the whole unit properly - toothpaste/drool gets stuck to the top of the base as well as to the brush. Just putting the articulated unit under running water won't do it - you have to remove the brush from the base. In sum: Great toothbrush; worth the extra money. It will be on my gift giving list this year.

Bye bye manual brush!,

After reading several reviews concerning electronic brushes here on Amazon, researching on consumer reports and talking to friends/co workers, I finally decided to purchase the Oral-B. My dental care hasnt been what you call spotless so I was a bit leary about it tearing up my gums and causing bleeding. I had to charge it for a few hours before using it that first night. (By the way, make sure you put it in your mouth before turning it on or you will get toothpaste everywhere =p ) Anyway, my first went use smoothly and now I am in love! Its like a visit to the dentist without the scary scraping!
If you are worried or concerned whether this will hurt or tear up your mouth....dont be. Great product.

Visit the dentist everyday!,

I received this as a birthday gift just over 2 years ago. I was skeptical at first but it really feels like you are visiting the dentist every time you use it. It is very easy to use and less work than a regular toothbrush, which I still use for my gums. The brushheads last around 3 months and you can get them for a good price in bulk at a local warehouse store. The handle stopped working recently so I am ordered a replacement immediately. Try not to get it very wet as the motor in the handle appears to rust.

Very Good Toothbrush,

I like this toothbrush very much overall. I used to use the Sonicare (the original one, not the Elite. I guess the Elite is supposed to be new and improved) although the Sonicare sent and unplesant ringing and tingling sensation through my mouth and face. The Sonicare seemed to work just as well as the Oral-B except the Oral-B doesn't have the unpleasnt tingling. My dentist recommends any Oral-B electric toothbrush over the Sonicare and ever since I switched to an electric he has been very pleased. He never noticed a difference bewteen the Sonicare and Oral-B, but he still recommends the Oral-B.

A "Has-Been",

I owned an older version of this product. It lasted 2 years. I replaced it with the AdvancePower model, and after 6 months the switch stopped working, and I couldn't turn it off. I bought another, thinking maybe, I had damaged it. It also broke the same way in about 4 months. I bought the more expensive version, since I could find NO other people experiencing the same problem and thought maybe the Advance Power model was just a cheap piece of crap. The Deluxe one broke in just 2 weeks. (WON'T TURN OFF) Braun is resting on their old reputation and turning out a shoddy product which, while appearing to be the same quality, is made from substandard materials.

My dentist recommended I brush with an Oral B. Brush along the gumlines, and you get a very thorough brush. Because the head is small, reaching far to the back teeth is easy. The only drawback - brush heads wear out fast. It is a must to stock up on brush heads since you go through them quickly.

I have been using this for four years so far - twice a day - and am very happy with the quality and overall experience. The heads are fairly expensive. The bottom of the toothbrush needs to be cleaned to remove gunk that also gets attracted to the charger.
