A necessity
The coffee maker cannot operate without this Little Piercing Unit. Thank goodness it can be replaced, and so easily with a bit of help from Amazon.

not for the basic bosch
this is not for the basic Bosch - only for the Braun unit. The machines take different piercing units so just be careful when you are ordering one for your machine. I have searched Amazon.com and they don't seem to carry the one for the Bosch, only the Braun.

Without this little piece, I couldn't use my machine. It probably stuck to a disc that had been left overnight and I trashed it by accident. I am glad I could buy this part and not the whole machine again!
