Product Description

Amazon.com Review

With its straightforward controls and user-friendly structure, the FreeStyle steam iron from Braun is a light, powerful unit with versatile applications. Designed for dry, spray, or steam use, the 1,500-watt iron features an ultrahard soleplate made from Eloxal. The material creates both easy glide and long-lasting durability--Braun even suggests cleaning it with steel wool. An arc of 71 steam vents across the soleplate creates wide and even steam dispersal. The steam options include standard horizontal and vertical positioning with dial-controlled release from 0 to 15 grams/minute. The dial also lets you interrupt or pause steam immediately and easily. For extra-stubborn wrinkles, the iron’s Power Shot sends out a formidable 75 grams of steam per minute.

Lightweight and easy to maneuver, the iron features an ergonomic open-design handle, soft grips, and nonslip texturing. For safety, it has 3-way automatic shutoff--after 25 seconds if left on its soleplate or side and after 12-1/2 minutes if left on its heel. Temperature selection is controlled with a dial, and the 8-foot pivoting cord with securing clip accommodates left- and right-handed users. Braun includes an anti-calcification system to cut mineral buildup and backs the unit with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

2.0 out of 5 stars Great design but not reliable, April 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Braun SI6225 FreeStyle Steam Iron, Blue (Kitchen)
A search of available steam irons in retail stores convinced me this is the best design and value available. I bought it. Unfortunately, with less than 2 months of use, the temperature control has become defective, and there is no reasonable way to get this replaced. So, not such a good value for me. Sad.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lovely iron...but now no steam!!!, October 26, 2005

I loved this (expensive-even-on-sale) iron, but after less than 2 months of use, and light use at that, it no longer steams. Sigh. How hard can it be to make an iron that keeps steaming? Back to the drawing board, Braun...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleased after exhaustive Search, February 10, 2005

I purchased the Braun SI6225 after first buying an $80 Rowenta since my good ole Black and Decker lost part of the heating element. The 1500 watt Rowenta didn't get any hotter than my semi-broken B&D which left starch flakes all over everything, The stainless sole plate instantly began to discolor around teh steam vents and it took me twice as long to get done. The 1500 B&D has worked much better though I still wish it would get hotter. The design is fantastic and features are excellent. I prefer a slightly heavier iron though I realize most people want the opposite so I'm not complaining. The water tank is plenty big and the opening is a nice design. I would never buy a stainless sole plate after having two non-stick surfaces for 15 years and I've only cleaned them once.
