Unlike other reviewers, I think this iron rocks the house!,

Being a single male working in a collared shirt world, I iron quite a bit. I have been through 3 irons in the last 4 years, spedning around 70 or 80 bucks on each one. I was ready to get a rewanda (or however you spell it) and then i noticed this one had a unique finish that was different from stainless. Being the risktaker I am, I went ahead and purchased this bad boy.Even though the others reviewing this unit seem to think this iron is crap, I throughly enjoy mine. Trust me, I iron a hell of a lot. My mom has one of those fancy smancy expensive Rawentas (or however you spell it, and I took this home to do some comparison for kicks and giggles. Ironically it appears to heat up faster than my mom's and the material on the iron plate cleans a whole hellua of a lot easier than stainless steel, in fact it beats the tar out of stainless steal. i haven't had any leaks or the such from mine and i have been using it daily for about 2 years. I have probably knocked it off the ironing board at least 6 or 7 times, and it still is up and running like a champ. i also like the grip on the iron. i find using this bad boyto be a pleasant ironing expierience (even though i dont honestly like to iron). Don't jump to conclusions with the other reviews. Maybe they got duds or something, but I can't complain a bit about mine. It also cleans very very easily. I do use water from my PUR filter, even though the manual says its not necessary. i'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, but it has stayed very clean and i see little or no calcium deposits. I don't even use the self cleaning thingy on it. There are nicer irons out there i'm sure, and you will pay for them in price. At one time i thought it was important to have a heavy iron, but this one is pretty damn lightweight which seems to make it an ideal unit for those with lazy or weak arms, Like i said, it steams better than any of my other previous irons and i would honestly rate it being as nice, or possibly better than my mom's Rawanta (or however you spell it). I'm not sure her model, but i knew it wasn't cheap (around 130 bucks). Also the attachment piece that displaces the iron plate from your clothing works really good on slacks. i have some silk slacks that hang great after using it. That in itself makes me a happy ironer. As for the others who had bad expieriences, i feel sorry for them. Braun is really good with customer service and i own a lot of thier products. now that i think about it, maybe the other ironing 'pros' (?naive domesticated slaves?) might need to read the manual or something. it does offer a few pointers for a stellar ironing expierience. but then again who likes to read manuals right? :-)

I bought this iron in December 2002 and it has never worked properly. It shuts itself off in about a minute or two leaving watermaks on whatever I am ironing. It will not come back on unless I unplug and replug it. I am sending it back to Braun.

I've this for a litle over 2 months. And have cut my ironing time in 1/2. It steams beautifully and pressing out the worst of the wrinkle without the need to press down on the iron. This is summer when there is a lot more to iron - all those cottons and linens. No drips, no drops or surprises. I saw that a man wrote a review of this iron and liked it! Any man who can iron and like it, well at least like the iron he's using, has to insprire me! That's why I decided to give this product a chance. He was right, it glides and performs extremely well. I DON'T like to iron. It's one of those thank less tasks in life; people just expect you to show up in unwrinkled clothes. Although I'd rather not have to iron, this machine makes it so much easier - and it gets done in a lot less time.

Any Iron will work better than this,

I wouldn't recommend this iron to anyone!!, you could grab any iron and it'll perform better than this one. I brought this iron back in 2002 and it worked fine for like a month and ever since it has failed to perform all the special stuff it's suppose to do. The worst scenarios I face is when water drips out of the iron face plate. I'll try to return it back to braun if possible, I'm lazy.

I love this iron!,

I bought this iron because my old iron kept leaking water and ruining my clothes. I did a lot of research and decided on this one. I'm glad I did. I love it! I've had it 3 months now and have not had any problems. Definately a good buy!

I've used this iron for a couple of weeks now and really it does no better than the $25 Black & Decker I used to have. This one has more "bells and whistles" but really other than good steam I don't need a fancy looking iron. And that extra plate thingy they give you is a waste...in my opinion, I'll never use it. There are also some problems with water spots/drips onto the fabric even after the iron is warmed up. I bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond for $60 so that's the only reason I'm keeping it :) If I ever need another iron I'll get a Rowenta.

Having purchased two of this exact same iron, I speak from much experience. Mine both worked great when I first got them, lots of steam, super cool design, and the best part of it is the attachable plate,..it clicks onto the ironing plate and it's made of a different material which gets hot and irons out creases, but doesnt burn fabrics or leave any shiny marks on dark fabrics. Attaching the plate also seems to generate more steam. It's great, you can iron anything on even the hottest setting, delicate fabrics, black clothes, plastics, whatever.
Then the problems begin. I've encountered all sorts of electrical and mechanical problems, on the first one, it wouldnt auto shut off, and the spring loaded button on the top (which turns off and on the steam) broke. I could'nt get it out to turn off steam or clean the anti calcium rod that it's attached to. Getting this thing serviced is a headache, you can't simply send it back to Braun, you need to take it to a service store in your area. My closest one was a mom and pop electronics store 20 miles from me - and I live in NYC! Having enjoyed the iron when it worked, I bought a brand new one when it was on sale (about $35). Again, good times when it worked, but the problems soon began. This new one won't turn on! There seems to be a short in the cord or where it attaches to the iron because it turns on when it wants to, the plate wont get hot, it's now collecting dust. I really like the design of this iron, and the attachable plate is genius. I must admit, I like it so much I would buy it again, but I wouldnt pay more than $30 for it. Look around on ebay or for a sale at Bed Bath and Beyond where they also have coupons. I'd never pay Amazon's ~$80 for this thing because I know it will be short lived.

I bought the FreeStylePro a 1 1/2 years ago. It just stopped working. During that time I was not happy with the water leaking out of the plate & the fact that I had to unplug it when not in use - I would not trust the auto shut off. Like others have said - all the bells & whistles are useless - just need a simple good iron. I will try to contact Braun & see if I can get a replacement.
