great product, January 5, 2003
This review is from: Braun 2370 Silk-epil Eversoft Epilator/Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I got this product as a gift purchased off my wishlist. This was the first epilator I have tried. I use it on my legs it removes all of the hair, but it is time consuming. I spend probably an hour or so each time I use it which is about monthly. My leg hair has grown back super fine and soft just after the first use. In some areas I have noticed it has not even come back after a few months of usage. I use the shaver attachment for my bikini area (nice and smooth and no ingrown hairs). I haven't tried the product on my underarms, but I don't mind using a traditional shaver for that area. This is a great product, even if you get it and the epilator is too painful for you to use you can still use it as a shaver. The pain is equivalent to plucking your eyebrows for the first time. After plucking your eyebrows the pain eventually lessons and subsides. I think the pain is less then it is waxing, because you are doing a small area at a time, but the whole process takes much longer. Overall you will save a ton of money using this product instead of waxing. Epilator Warnings: 1. If it is too painful for you to use a tweezers anywhere on your body I wouldn't get this product unless you just want to use it just with the shaver attachment. If you are daring and really want to try it but if you are really sensitive to pain I would use ice packs to numb the area beforehand. 2. This product is time consuming. It will take you 1-2 hours to completely do your legs for the first time. Let your hair grow out for about a week before using it the first time. Hair grows at different times and you have a better chance and grabbing it all if you wait a week or two before using. 3. Product is difficult to grab hair if it is very long i.e. pubic hair or leg hair that has grown more then a month. So I could recommend trimming it down before use or not waiting so long before using it. 4. The cord isn't very long so if were you are going to use it is more then a few feet away from the outlet I would use a short extension cord. 5. Hold your skin taunt with your fingers it makes grabbing the hair and removing it much easier! Also it can hurt if it grabs onto some of your skin. It won't make you bleed but it feels like a sharp pinch if it catches your skin. Epilator Advice: 1. Don't give up if the first time you use it... if it hurts so bad you want to stop using it. Next time try to use an ice pack on the area beforehand to numb it. 2. You should use an exfoliator weekly to prevent ingrown hairs. I haven't had a problem with any ingrown hairs as of yet and I have been using it for about 3 months. 3. My skin is usually a little pink and slightly puffy after use but it subides shortly there after. I would not use this the day of a big event because you will most likely still be a little puffy and tender. Just like they recommend with waxing I would use it either the day before or a few days before the big day. 4. Sit some place comfortable, I use it on my bed, but put a bath towel under you or you will have tiny hairs all over! I love this product and the best part is no batteries and it saves you so much money!

Great product!!! Exfoliate first, and you have a home salon, December 8, 2002
This review is from: Braun 2370 Silk-epil Eversoft Epilator/Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I have used this product and another one sold by shaper image, and this one is much better: 1. If you shower and use a loofa or some type of exfoliation to the area prior to use,it will catch the hair faster. you must prep the area ie; remove the dead skin on the area. 2. To prevent ingrown hairs, you need to remove your dead skin by exfoliating occassionally say twice a week in the shower. it not only helps prevent ingrown hairs but also makes your skin feel nice and soft. 3. After using this machine, apply a hypoallergic gentle skin creme to your legs, and they look great! 4. It's true that your hair will grow back lesser after repeated use. In some areas I have no hair growth. 5. It works great on facial hair provided once again that you remove all facial makeup and wash with a exfoliating spounge or small loofa. 6. Make sure you clean the shaver during the hair removal process as after a few minutes hair can accumulate really fast. It's better to use it when your hair is at least 1/8" long. 7. Kiss shaver burn, and irratation goodbye with this wonderful razor. I used to get bikini area irritation using disposable razors , and waxing really hurt and caused ingrown hairs if I didnt exfoliate 2-3X weekly to remove dead skin and let knew hair growth break thru the skin. The unit has a built in recharger so you are not stuck with a cord when removing the hair. Recharges great and hold recharge. 8. Lastly, if you think about it,,,,,if you use it twice it will pay for 2 salon vistits for legs, bikini and underarm removal to say the least. It's great for travel due to it's compact size. Well worth the investment and you have the freedom to do it at home rather than a salon appt. So don't procastinate, buy it and see for yourself what your are missing out on.

It DOES hurt, November 21, 2002
This review is from: Braun 2370 Silk-epil Eversoft Epilator/Shaver (Health and Beauty)
When I first tried this product, I was shocked at how much more it hurt than I expected... so many reviews said it didn't hurt much. Seriously, it's yanking thousands of hairs out by the roots - and that's pretty much what it feels like, at least the first time you use it. So if you don't really mind shaving, I see no reason why you'd want to try this. I have always HATED shaving, because of the stubble and how my legs always felt rough and dry even immediately after shaving. Much of my adult life I just left my legs hairy, because that felt better than stubble. I decided to try the Silk Epil as an alternative. Overall, I do like it now. It is time-intensive - the first time I spent about an hour at it one day, and another hour the second day. After that I just do touch-ups once a week or so, and that doesn't take long. After the first time, when I was more used to how it felt, I didn't mind the pain - Now it feels more like little electric shocks or sometimes heat on my skin. So, the pros: no stubble, hair takes a while to grow back, the machine is easy to clean, and there's no messy goo. And the cons: fairly painful, slow, and there are always missed hairs. If missed hairs are annoying me, I pull them with tweezers. Using a loofa or some sort of exfoliating scrub in the shower and putting lotion on your legs every day pevents ingrown hairs.
