I bought this because my wife, a nurse, was tired of fussing with our 4 1/2 yr old and our oral thermometers, and wanted something closer to what she uses at work. Our daughter was on the verge of pneumonia, and we knew we would be tracking her temperature regularly for a couple of days, and wanted something to get it done quickly and accurately. This Braun Ear Thermometer does the trick. It's fast, accurate, easy to handle, and well made. Don't waste the extra $20-30 for the next model up in the Braun product line - paying for the "tip warmer" feature is pointless when the reading takes less than 3 seconds to perform. This is a real bargain, IMO.

pros - light weight and small, easy to use, uses 1 AAA battery which is easy to find and replace. design conforms to the hand.

cons - no back light on lcd screen

summary - i prefer this over the thermometer that is used on the forehead. this is almost as accurate as those used in the hospitals. easy to use specially for babies and battery is easy to find and replace. it would have been great if they put a back light on the lcd screen, because if you are a parent like me who monitors my baby's temperature during the night when she is sick, you don't want to be turning on the lights just to see the reading of the thermometer.

I have three young children and this thermometer is very easy to use. It appears to be very accurate. It is also a good value.

I purchased this item in July, and now is the first time I've had a need to use it. IT DOES NOT WORK. When I put it in the ear, it cut off. I put a new battery in it, waited until the proper screen came on to insert it in the ear, put it in the ear, and again IT cut off. I spent 20 mins. or more reading and rereading the instructions and trying to get it to work. NOTHING. It's too late to return it. IT IS A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING LIKE THIS AGAIN FROM AMAZON.COM.

This is an important tool for your medicine cabinet. It is easy to use (on yourself or others) and quickly gives you a temp reading. When you have to take the temp mutiple times during illness, the quick reading makes it worth the money.

We bought this for our baby after hearing how convenient it is to have a thermometer that takes a temperature reading very quickly. But the truth of the matter is, babies' ear canals are too small for this to work properly. I've found an average of two degrees discrepancy between this and our other thermometers. Our pediatrician also advised us that the most accurate way to take a baby's temperature is rectally.

It doesn't provide an accurate temperature. It will constantly say that I have a 95 degree temp. I went to the doctor today with a sinus infection and had a 101 fever.

I would never have purchased this thermometer if someone had warned me that it keeps changing - on its own - from fahrenheit to celsius. It is very fast, but I am a nurse and I don't have time to sit and fiddle with it.

Yes all the Braun ear thermometers are great when it comes to taking a child's temp. It is unrealistic to try to obtain an oral temperature when a child is feverish.

But the problem lies with the replacable sensor covers "Lens Filters". They are cone shaped: 25mm deep, with a 27mm diameter. Unfortunately somewhat collapsible. Inhaled it would fit nicely into a trachea or mainstem bronchus.

So there is a real potential that a misplaced clear cover can be found by a toddler. And unintentionally inhaled. Blocking the airway. Causing acute respiratory arrest.

There are safer products on the market. ie; Temporal scanners.
