I was a little surprised at the price but found that it is worth it. It is built very sturdy and does what it was made to. The stainless steel looks great and is very sleek. One thing though... 1.0 out of 5 stars Bad kettle
I returned this product and got a full refund with no hassle. The problem was that the supposedly stainless steel base inside got rusty after 1 week of use! Maybe it was mineral deposits but it got awfully stained awfully fast, and the water tasted metallic. I also did not like the lid - it can't be taken off which made it difficult to fill, and also the exterior got...

GETS VERY HOT, but as long as you use the handle you will be fine. I really like that it came with a filter in it and has the automatic turn off when it reaches the appropriate temperature. If you're willing to pay $69+ for a water heater you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Braun makes an Impression, January 2, 2005

It really does. And it is a member of the new Impression line of appliances from Braun.

I have been using a Braun WK200 water kettle for years and I am quite pleased with it. It is made of quality plastic and made in Germany. I have no reason to think it won't last forever and I use it every day to boil water for green tea.

However, I spotted the WK600 in one of the stores and, after an internet search, found the same kettle for sale that put Amazon's price to shame, at little more than half of Amazon's price. (Sorry, Amazon.) Needless to say, I took advantage of the lower price.

The WK600 is a quality appliance and exceedingly well made, although it is made in China. It will be just at home in your kitchen as it would be on your dining room table.

Some features you will want to know about the WK600:

2200 watts
Capacity: 1.7L
Easy-read water level indicator (both sides)
On/off pilot light (both sides)
Easy water filling through spout
Concealed heating element
Four-way safety switch off incl. auto-off
Cord storage
Washable limestone scale filter
Easy to clean
Colours: stainless steel/black

4.0 out of 5 stars Good kettle that is metal, not plastic, January 3, 2006

My main concern with the purchase of an electric kettle was that I did not want a plastic one, yet I wanted the convenience and speed of an electric kettle. The idea of boiling water in a plastic kettle scares me a bit-I don't want the chemicals leeching out into the water for me to drink. Granted, this kettle does have some plastic inside such as on the lid and in the water level indicator, but for the most part, it's all metal, which I feel safer with.

This kettle is not just handy for tea and instant coffee, but also for boiling water for pasta or any other cooking which requires hot water. It gets me there faster and more energy efficiently than boiling water on the stovetop.

It works as advertised, looks good and seems like it will last a long time. Note-you are not supposed to store water in the kettle indefinitely as this may cause it to leak. You are only supposed to use it and then after you have used it and are done for the day/night, empty it and store it dry. If you store it with water in it for a long period of time, it may leak. It's perfectly fine to store it with water, just know that it could leak a bit after a while. But even if it does leak, it's no big deal as it does not break or damage the unit.

It is true that the outside metal gets hot to the touch whereas a plastic model does not, but this is a minor inconvenience since the handle never actually gets hot.

In all I would recommend this kettle even though it's a bit more expensive than other electric kettles. I like that it is made out of metal rather than plastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful electric kettle. Wouldn't want to do without!, February 24, 2005

I grew up in Europe and have been missing the convenience of electric kettles in the US. I finally bought this one. While it is certainly more expensive than a plastic kettle, it's worth its money. I use it every day to boil tea water. Also comes in handy when you don't want to wait forever to heat up your pasta water. Another reviewer listed that this kettle was 2200 watts. THIS IS INCORRECT. It is only 1500 watts. It does take a bit longer than the European kettles to heat up water, but it is still more convenient than heating it up in a regular pot on the stove.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good (but be careful), June 5, 2006

I really like this kettle. Here are some observations that might help you decide.

--It actually looks better than the pictures make you think.
--It's bigger/taller than the pictures make you think.
--It's surprisingly heavier than you might expect.
--It gets very hot. This should come as no surprise since it is metal. I wouldn't get this if kids can get to it easily. While we know a pan is hot on a stove, the kettle stays hot after use so one might forget it's hot.
--There is a dishwashable filter near the spout. The instructions say it might take longer for it to auto shut-off if the filter is removed. So I leave it in there even though I use bottled water and have no need for the filter.
--The measurements on it are accurate and easy to read.
--It shuts off if you lift it, if water boils, if there is no water, and if the lid is opened. I like this, I would once in a while forget to turn off an older kettle and it stayed on. Not with the Braun though (because just lifting it off the base turns it off!).
--The spout is nice and feels/performs professional/ly.
--Unlike another reviewer, I have no problem opening it even if it's hot right after use. Pushing the open butten opens it part way. Using your finger to open it all the way is not that hard then (Even though I really have no reason to open it).

Purchased this kettle after looking at a large variety in the usual culprit stores. All are made in China now, but the fit and finish of the materials on this is far superior to all the others, including the Chef'sChoice and Cuisinart.
Attention to details abound - polished lips on the stainless steel pouring spout (not so the others), heavy electrical three prong with an elegant storage system for slack in the base. Handle is a very comfortable shape, easily balanced even when the kettle is full of liquid. Best feature is the location of the ON switch and the lid opening switch. Most all the others have a switch on the top of the handle that the unsuspecting might think is a way to open the pouring spout - dead wrong. They all open the fill cap, which is an invitation to a disaster for the unwary pourer. On this design, the easy to reach switch is the ON switch. To open the lid, there is a separate, longer switch that is much less likely to fall under the thumb due to its location further up the handle.
Boils 7 cups of water in less than 7 minutes at sea level.
Appears most places around $70 - $80, but after a couple of pageviews, Amazon dropped price from $76 to $36 (delivered!).
Highly recommended.

Bought this kettle after doing research as it seems one of the best. Good looks aren't always everything i noticed. It got rusty after the first boiling, i was so surprised and disappointed. I guess Braun's reputation isn't the same any more than it was. I returned it straight away and after a long time got the refund from Amazon. Maybe not all of the kettles don't get rusty but i wouldn't take a risk. Also inside there are plastic parts which are in almost every stainless kettle. The only one i've found that has no plastic parts inside is: Flama Stainless Steel Cordless Kettle 1.8-L.. That is the one i bought after and haven't been happier.

1.0 out of 5 stars This kettle is a heavy, leaking and non-functioning piece of junk., January 4, 2007
This review is from: Braun WK600 Impressions 7-Cup Electric Kettle, Brushed Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This beautiful electric kettle is extremely heavy. We bought the kettle to heat water once a day for morning coffee. Pretty soon the kettle stopped connecting to the heating element, so we had to press down on the top of kettle for the first minute or so, in order to make the kettle connect with the heating element and get the kettle to heat. Then the kettle started leaking. Seven months later, the kettle no longer works at all.

UPDATE: I had this for two years. It still works perfectly. Make sure to clean it regularly, say, every 3 months. I use a coffee pot cleaner chemical but probaly baking soda or vinegar works well too [follow instructions].

I own half a dozen electric kettles since I don't throw away oldies but I love to buy new ones. The Braun WK600 is the best among them although it is also one of the most expensive ones.

Like with all electric kettles, do not overfill it [this one lacks a warning].

The concealed heating element is a great idea.

I strongly recommend this product.
