Editorial Reviews

Review

This is one of the most comprehensive textbooks I have ever come across. It truly leaves no stones unturned and each area is covered in impressive scope and depth. It is an indispensable source of reference for cardiologists and non-cardiologists alike. The online version is very user-friendly and follows the same format as the textbook. One added bonus is the update feature where all the most recent advances are updated regularly and inserted into the relevant chapters. The CD-ROM contains a generous number of very well chosen, good quality slides which can be imported for use in presentations. I would strongly recommend this textbook as a worthy addition to the medical library of any primary or secondary care physician and the online version makes it a very practical reference tool for everyday use. Nilar Than, Univadis, December 2009 REVIEW OF THE LAST EDITION "The editors have accomplished an impressive feat: improving on an already classic text...A worthy addition to the medical library of any practicing cardiologist, cardiology fellow, or health care practitioner with a special interest in heart disease." - JAMA

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful as always, June 8, 2008
This review is from: Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, Single Volume, 8e (Heart Disease (Braunwald) (Single Vol)) (Hardcover)
You can't say that there is a spectacular change from the previous edition. The better a product gets, the harder it is to improve it. But the format is frendlier, the guidelines and recommandations have been updated (which was a weak spot of the previous edition), and there are some new interesting chapters (like the management of stroke). In conclusion, still very useful as a reference.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate, December 31, 2009

This review is from: Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, Single Volume, 8e (Heart Disease (Braunwald) (Single Vol)) (Hardcover)
Very inaccurate re ME (CFIDS). Advises exercise which can cause severe worsening of the disease. Conflates ME (CFIDS) and the symptom of chronic fatigue. No mention of Dr. Lerner's studies of cardiomyopathy or Prof. Leonard's publication on cardiac disease mortality in ME. When ME patients die of heart disease, it is, on average, at an age 25 years younger than that of the whole population of people who die of heart disease.

This review is from: Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, Single Volume, 8e (Heart Disease (Braunwald) (Single Vol)) (Hardcover)
I'm from Brazil. I bought Braunwald's Heart Disease 8th ed in december 2008. Shipping was predicted to arrive in january 20th. Just in time, in the exact day, the book was home. Moreover, it's an elegant, precise, up to dated text, with lots of images and tables, with excellent writing. I, definitely recommend it to every cardiology student or practioner.
Thanks Amazon, for the great job!
