Final Volume of Mark Waid's Run on "Brave and the Bold",
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Brave and the Bold Vol. 3: Demons and Dragons (Brave and the Bold (DC Comics)) (Hardcover)
While the first two volumes of Mark Waid's "The Brave and the Bold" were among the best comics published by DC in recent years, "Volume 3: Demons and Dragons" doesn't live up to the earlier volumes. The Flash/Batman and Catwoman/Superman team-ups are top-notch, but the two-part Deadman story feels like a leftover JLA story. There isn't anything to connect the four chapters like the subplot of the first two volumes, so this volume feels less than the sum of its parts. The hardcover version also features reprints of Flash #107 and Impulse #17 (both written by Waid) plus Brave and the Bold #181 (by Alan Brennert). The reprints don't add much to the package; here's hoping that the upcoming JMS run on reinvigorates the title.

Total mess,

As the blurb says, another "high octane" offering, by pairing up superheroes to offer great stories.
This is a recipe for gratuitious fight scenes and meaningless team-ups. Might as well throw in the kitchen sink as well. Titles such as these should be published under Kitchen Sink Press or something...:) |
