Love in War, September 15, 2007
This review is from: Brave Hearts (Five Star First Edition Mystery) (Hardcover)
Carolyn G. Hart's "Brave Hearts" takes the reader from the blitz of London to the malaria infested jungles of the Philippines as star crossed lovers struggle to survive after the fall of Corregidor.
Catherine and Spencer Cavanaugh lead separate lives; under the cover of work he hides an affair with his secretary, Peggy. His wife, Catherine discovers a love that gives life to her barren existence.
A promotion of great consequence drives him to take both women to Manila during the last days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Jack Mcquire uses his press papers to follow Catherine, to protect the his love with his life against government officials that weigh the gold of a fallen nation against the lives of its representatives.
This thriller/love story is not the cozy for which Ms. Hart is famous, but a graphically explicit story of a country at war, told from the stand point of a crack reporter. A different side of Ms. Hart and an excellent read.
Nash Black, author of "Sins of the Fathers" and "Travelers."
