4.0 out of 5 stars Sheryl Crow - Try Not To Remember
I want "Try Not To Remember" from Sheryl Crow, and that is the ONLY song on this entire album that is not available for download... it makes no sense!
Please make this track available for download!

Sheryl Crow has a talent for movie songs: Her title song for Tomorrow Never Dies was a strong anchor for solid soundtrack, and Try Not to Remember on this album is one of her best -- right in her range, nice blend of country and pop, melancholy but reflective instead of dark. Sheryl Crow has a talent for movie songs: Her title song for Tomorrow Never Dies was a strong anchor for solid soundtrack, and Try Not to Remember on this album is one of her best -- right in her range, nice blend of country and pop, melancholy but reflective instead of dark. Sadly, it seems to be available only here, while the rest of the world has gone to individual digital downloads for songs. That's too bad, because as a single it's certainly 4 or 5-star worthy.

The problem is that the rest of this album just doesn't work outside the context of the film for which it was scored. There are some nicely done moments on the other 18 tracks, but I would agree with the Amazon review that it becomes much of a sameness and goes on seemingly forever. I haven't seen the film, so it is possible that the music works perfectly with it and Endelman is a talented composer. But on its own the CD falls flat. I've looked up from my desk and suddenly realized it was still playing -- that's how uninvolving it is.

This album seems to be a case study in the old school packaging technique -- buy 18 tracks that fade into obscurity to get the pop song that opens the album. In 1981, I wouldn't have given it a thought, but in 2011 it's vaguely insulting. I suppose I bought it used to register my protest...
