I picked up this album on a whim without having seen the anime Brave Story, because it's Juno Reactor's (aka Ben Watkins) first foray into classical music composition. If you know of his past musical work, you will know that doing an all classical/orchestral soundtrack is a large departure from his "comfort zone" blend of primarily goa trance, techno, breakbeat, and tribal forms of electronic music.

I was impressed with the cd as a whole. It's a very different listening experience than most cds in that it's purely just the musical score used in the film. And thus, a lot of the songs are very short and seem to end abruptly. Presumably this is because of how they were matched to various scenes in the movie.

That being said, it is a very enjoyable listening experience. Sound quality and production are top notch. And the music has a very "clean" aspect to it. The scores are well thought out, and the musicians performing are very accurate and skilled.

In summary, if you have an open mind and would like to experience another side to Juno Reactor/Ben Watkins you should give this soundtrack a chance. It's a good collection of work, and a nice piece to have for any Juno Reactor fan.
