At nearly 4x the size of the BRAVEN Six Series, the BRAVEN 850 pumps out unbelievable sound from a speaker less than a foot long. Like its smaller brothers, the 850 provides emergency mobile device charging, impressive play time, integrated speakerphone, and an aircraft grade aluminum housing. In addition to mind-blowing sound, the BRAVEN 850 will charge iPads, tablets, and other 2.1A devices (as well as cell phones), and offers wireless pairing between two 850 speakers for left and right stereo.

I owned a fake beats pill ( witch I adored by the way! ) but it lacked a bit of bass, so when the founds were available, I opened a hunt for a powerful, yet portable bluetooth speaker. From the endless choices of speakers out there, I zoomed in on 5 of them:
Beats Pill XL, Bose Soundlink III, Jawbone's Big Jambox, Samsung's DA-F61 and the Braven 850 ( witch in the rural countryside of Belgium had to come close to witchcraft ). My criteria were:
- Build quality
- Durability
- Battery life
- Price

Ok so Samsung lost the race right away: It seems that you can't krank it up when it's charging! No, NO and NOOO!

Beats pill XL, punched just too much bass. For those genres of music where you like the bass, it's perfect, but when you decide to give the speakers a workout by ramming some Death Metal machine gun drums down it's throat, it becomes muddy. Hell NO!

Jawbone's Big Jambox. Could not been tested! SHAME! I was looking forward to it. But remember, in Belgium we are 5 years behind on the trends. Wireless music is one of them. I guess people are put off by the sight of a red brick with big "child friendly" buttons. Moving on...

Bose Sound link III. Because in Belgium everyone gets an instant raging erection when they hear "BOSE", I decided to give this "60's toaster" a go. How was the sound? Just like the price tag: too damn Bose! Too much focussed on the "Porsche Cayenne" owner's club who like their music like their food: soft! Sounds ok if you love classical, I guess. The price tag of 300 euro's, made my nose hairs curl up. :( Bose has it's market of 60 to 70+ owners who like to pay for the brand name.

Strangely enough the Braven 850 ended up expanding my auditory horizons.

I bought two of these 850 speakers. After viewing all the videos and ratings(see twit reviews). And I found that most respondents were terribly wrong. These items performed well above any expectations.Great clarity and base. And no problems at all.Maybe the rattle from the other review was from his laying the speaker on the sub.My friends all have Jawbones and Bose and we did active comparison. Hands down they said the Braven did them in.And when I paired the two for stereo separation Jaws dropped.Soooooo loud and full.Recommended.

This is the best job site radio out there with 50 ft range and amazing sound. New construction has limited outlets to plug radio's in and can be carried from room to room. I Love it

After reading and watching several reviews I had high hopes for this speaker. Unfortunately it falls short in all aspects.
CONS:
1. It is not loud at all, (I am pretty sure my SoundLink Mini is louder).
2. The sound is not great, it is okay if you are listening to anything that is below the sound of a normal conversation but try to turn it up and it is distorted.
3. It is heavy, which shouldn't be a big deal since I wasn't really looking for something "Super" portable, but for the sound you get from it, it should be smaller.
4. Expensive!

PROS:
1. It is very solid.
2. You could pair it with another one to get "Stereo" sound (although that would end up costing around $500 for two speakers which is not worth it)
3. Battery life is great
4. It can charge your phone
5. Can act as a speaker phone pretty well.

Overall it has some great features and if you are purchasing it for these features alone, then and only then, it may be worth it, but still it is expensive.

Don't buy it expecting any magical sounding music or loudness, it is good for a desktop speaker in an office.

We needed a small, lightweight Bluetooth speaker for our travel trailer, because the built-in system was dreadful (thank you Jensen).

We first tried modifying the speakers, and it was ok-ish. Then a Bose Soundlink II. Better, but it sounded 'processed' and tiring after a while.

Welcome, Braven 850, a breath of fresh air. The bass is not much to write home about, but what should you expect in such a small package? Apart from that, it's crisp and clear and I like it.

Two thumbs up.

I bought the Braven 850 to provide sound at an anniversary party, but then found other uses it was perfect for, for music in our vintage Airstream trailer. The wireless capability, battery life and size make it handy to move around for music nearby while you keep your iPad or whatever somewhere else. We initially used the Braven for a anniversary party held in a 20' square, open sided tent- for dinner jazz during a cocktail hour and then for music for dancing later. It was perfect for this, with enough power and good sound to fill the space with background music. I read a lot of reviews and wasn't disappointed- the Braven 850 is not for a purist audiophile, but I think most people would be happy with it. Where it's best is when there may be background sounds to help muffle shortcomings in the Braven's sound output. I had hoped to find a product made by Tivoli, with the same sound. The thing will pump out sound at an acceptably loud level, but turned all the way up there is a lot of distortion. I would use the enhanced setting only- without it the sound is pretty meh. I love the design- the anodized aluminum case with the simple perforations, the row of simple buttons on top- it's clean and timeless. It also feels well made, with buttons that feel like they'll keep working for a while. The battery life is very good, and the claims of 20 hour battery life match my experience. The downsides? Pairing with Blutooth was easy, but sometimes glitchy. Changing from one device to another sometimes took a few tries. The dual-function buttons take a little getting used to- it's easy to change tracks with the volume control until you learn to tap the up or down button, not hold them down. For use outside, I think I might have gone with the more expensive and water resistant 855, but I liked the way this one looked better, aluminum for use in the aluminum trailer. It's a sturdy thing that works pretty well, not cheap, but well designed visually and for the user.
