For its size, very good sound!

In my opinion, the Braven 650 is the better of the two when you consider what you get for what you pay.

I'm comparing the Braven 650 to the Bose Soundlink.

In my opinion, the Braven 650 is the better of the two when you consider what you get for what you pay.

I have had the Soundlink for about 4 months and the 650 for 10 days.

Pros for 650: About 40% cheaper than the Soundlink. Better treble reproduction. Surprisingly good volume with little distortion. Excellent battery life, about 2x that of the Soundlink. More compact size. Travel Bag included. Readily connects to your Bluetooth. World-class customer service.

Pros for the Soundlink: Richer, louder sound. Emphasizes bass to the exclusion of high end (you may or may not consider that to be a plus). Protective cover that doubles as a stand for the speaker. Readily connects to your Bluetooth.

Cons for 650: Hard to remove from the package (though they are creating new packaging, I hear. In any event, if you have a problem, go to Braven's website and watch the video they have created, or check the FAQs. You'll have no problem). No bass or treble controls, but this is not really an issue as the sound is well balanced.

Cons for the Soundlink: Not a good value for the money. Battery life is okay - about 8 hours or so. Bass is overemphasized. No bass or treble control. Takes about 2x the space in your luggage as will the 650.

Conclusion: If money is no object and you prefer bass over mid-range and treble, get the Soundlink. But the Braven 650 is probably the better way to go for the vast majority of people. It gives you 85% of what the Bose offers but at a price that is about $120 less than the Bose. Either one will make you happy.

the braven wireless speaker sounds great and the tone is amazing, volume very good. The switch to turn it on and off broke 2 months after purchase will light episodic use. The seller Dependable Resources said to refer to the amazon policy which says only 30 days can you return it. Braven states that Dependable Resources is not an authorized seller and they can't honor their one year warranty if sold by unauthorized resellers such as Dependable Resources. Fortunately the owner of Braven is a an honest and good business man and realized they had to issue me new product, because it broke under normal conditions still under warranty. and he agreed to send me another speaker .

That being said, Braven now lists this re-seller Dependable Resources as an unauthorized re-seller so buyer beware. If you purchase a Braven from them here, you will have only the 30 day Amazon warranty then you are on your own. So get your Braven, it's a good product and hopefully they will re-engineer the on/off switch, but don't buy it from an un-authorized seller such as Dependable Resource who wont honor the warranty and Braven wont honor either if purchased from them. Why doesnt Amazon alert customers to this type of issue?

I compared this against Soundfreaq, Jawbone, Jabra and Monster. Each speaker has its plusses and minuses and I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I found the Braven 650 in Amazon for $20 off and that ultimately tipped me in its direction and I have no regrets.

THE GOOD:
- Outstanding sound and build quality. No speaker this size is going to sound like a pair of Martin Logans so if you can accept that up front, you won't be disappointed. The sound is clear with a little brightness, which is how I prefer my music. It's not terribly loud but does a good job and I've gained a little bit of output, without noticeable sacrifice, by increasing the volume level in my iTunes library. Any speaker's sound quality is directly impacted by the input source. If you're sending it crummy MP3 files, don't expect it to overcome that issue. Online streaming sources also sound very good. I haven't tested the differences with an iPhone plugged in directly via a 3.5mm connection.
- The speaker phone works great. There's not much more to say than that.
- Pairs quickly and I've had no issues with Apple and Android devices.
- Long batter life AND the ability to simultaneously charge a phone. I haven't had to use the charging feature yet but it's a big reason this one's a keeper. This feature is something you'll definitely miss when your backyard or beach party runs long and your phone's battery level goes red. I believe you can charge a device with the Soundfreaq but its battery capacity it much less.
- I've read some complaints about the buttons and their relative size. Really? It's a portable speaker, not a Creston remote. The buttons are fine and once paired you're likely use your source device to control the volume.

After a lot of online research, I decided to buy both the Braven 650 and the Soundmatters FoxLv2 Platinum, as these appear to be two of the best high-end portable bluetooth speakers on the market. Overall, the Braven 650 is a better speaker, and I am returning the FoxL. The 2012 Sound & Vision review of the Braven 650 is accurate in its comparison of the two units. Both are small, very stylish audiophile-grade bluetooth speakers. Both are ruggedly built and a pleasure to hold in your hand. The Soundmatters is smaller and heavier, the Braven a little bigger and lighter. But size and weight is not an issue - both are very portable and can go everywhere with you. Both connect flawlessly to your bluetooth system. So, it's all about the sound. They both sound great. At low volumes, the Soundmatters has a slight clarity edge. But the Braven plays louder, with more bass and an overall richer more satisfying sound. The Soundmatters distorts at high volume, the Braven does not. It sounds better as you crank it up. It is plenty loud. The Braven also can link to up to 6 devices, the Soundmatters only one at a time. The Soundmatters will vibrate at high bass volume and "walk" across the table unless you use the provided sound mat. The Braven is solidly planted at all volume levels. The Braven can charge your phone. The Braven has an auto shutoff feature. These are not found in the Soundmatters. On the other hand, the Soundmatters comes with a truly excellent Evergreen audio cable and superb plug accessories. Even nicer than the Braven's. These are both handsome speakers to behold and to listen to, and you cannot go wrong with either. But in a side by side sound showdown, and after listening to both for several hours, I concur with Sound & Vision magazine that the Braven is a more satisfying listening experience.
